Cause of harsh criticism? “Van der Vaart was drunk at Studio Voetbal”

1 min read

Rafael van der Vaart went after several PSV players mercilessly on Sunday evening, not least in the presence of Peter Bosz. Guus Til and Joey Veerman had to take it on the chin, but it seemed that something was going on in the background as well.

Actually, according to ratings expert Tina Nijkamp. On Vandaag Inside, live from Curacao, Nijkamp told television viewers on Monday evening that there are strong rumors going around that Van der Vaart was drunk at the table on Sunday evening. Could that be the cause of the fierce criticism aimed at Joey Veerman and Guus Til?

No, that sudden outstretched arm around Peter Bosz’s shoulder doesn’t necessarily have to have anything to do right away with excessive drinking, but it did stand out. Because it was nevertheless a bit awkward, that arm around Bosz’s shoulder.

Van der Vaart was very critical on Sunday evening at Studio Voetbal. The analyst went in hard at several PSV players, including Guus Til. Van der Vaart had also already gone in hard on Sunday evening at Joey Veerman. Guus Til appears to be next on Van der Vaart’s list as well. Ronald Koeman is going to announce his squad for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada on 27 May, but Til, according to the analyst, should not be part of it.

In the very last episode of the well-known Sunday evening show, the possible selection of Guus Til was discussed. Van der Vaart thinks Til does not fit in with the current midfield of Oranje: Tijjani Reijnders (Manchester City), Frenkie de Jong (Barcelona) and Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool).

'Don’t exaggerate that he has to go to the World Cup. He’s perfectly happy to sit on the sofa; that’s different from Veerman. He, so to speak, would rather be at the fair in Volendam. But the current core—those guys are absolutely top-level. Then Til or Veerman will get laughed at,' Van der Vaart dismissively lashes out at Til.

Theo Janssen doesn't agree with that and believes that Til's own way of playing provides the necessary variety. 'He has fantastic timing. He's always in the right place; we don't have that type in Oranje. As number ten, you need someone who is always on the move. You can make very good use of that.'

'When you look at Frenkie, Reijnders and Gravenberch. They seem a bit similar and aren't complementary to each other', Janssen went on. 'Til is a completely different player. You can use him very well at the World Cup.' Til, for his part, is patiently waiting and is 'just lying by the pool' in anticipation of a possible call from the national team coach.

mijn vraag: why did they leave space behind the fullbacks too often? i love the press but if you cant recover, it becomes free counters 💀🐐

If PSV start playing like this on the inside channels, i think it opens everything up. But then back line has to be sharper, because one quick turn by the opponent and you are punished. 👀🔥

If PSV go with that intensity again, Sangaré has to be the one controlling the tempo. Otherwise we will get overrun in transition, and then it feels like the whole midfield is chasing shadows.
