Ronald Koeman doesn’t beat around the bush and responds to statements by Joey Veerman

1 min read

Ronald Koeman has given a response after the sharp remarks Joey Veerman made to him. The national team coach reacted live on TV, at Ziggo, to Veerman's statements.

All in all, it was quite a tirade from Joey Veerman, Sunday afternoon after the PSV - FC Twente match. In turn, Koeman doesn’t want to spend too many words on it, which also says something about the head coach’s communication skills. Koeman did, however, make it clear that there will indeed be no chance left for Veerman with the Netherlands national team.

"It's ready", Koeman responds in Rondo on Ziggo Sport when Joey Veerman and his comments from Sunday afternoon are discussed. Earlier, Veerman lashed out hard at the national coach after the match between PSV and FC Twente. "In my opinion, a player can also say what he thinks about things. I think that's fine. In my opinion, it's over."

Presenter Wytse van der Goot then asks whether Koeman could have done it better. "Well, it might have been a bit better. When there is a publication that says he’s not on a list of 55 players, then it makes sense that you think: 'What is that?' That list of 55 has never existed. Many fewer than 55. There were forty. Especially in the positions where we still have doubts, you put more players on the list. Not in midfield. If you make the list so big, you give hope to players who don’t have any."

It has not all gone well for Veerman with regard to his international career with the Netherlands national team. Up to now, Veerman has played sixteen internationals for the Netherlands national team. During the semi-final of the European Championship 2024 against England, he made his last appearance in Oranje. Much more about the PSV midfielder does Koeman not want to say. "I don't want to talk about it any further", concludes the national coach, who was backed by Guus Hiddink and Theo Janssen. Both analysts, just like Koeman, believe it is time to put an end to it.

Goal!! The way we switched play quickly actually made the whole game open up. I just want that same bravery even when we are leading, dont let it go flat.

"control in the middle" is cap if our second ball is always second to them. We should start winning duels earlier, not after the counter is already on. 🥶

"The key is timing on the press" makes sense, but only if the players communicate early. Otherwise, it turns into chaos and youre defending second balls all night. Im curious how they expect the winger to track back without killing the attack. 👀

I like how PSV keep building up from the back, but today it looked like one careless pass away from trouble. Defending the half-spaces is still our weak spot, ngl.

"PSV need to be more direct" yeah that is what I have been saying. Stop forcing those slow triangles when Lang and Tillman can attack the half-space. Goated if they actually commit to it for 90 mins. ⚽🚀

I like the idea of switching the play faster, but the fullback overlaps were kinda missing in the last match. If they push high without covering, it will be punished on the counter. Need balance, not just fireworks. 👀

"PSV Inside" talks like we are unstoppable... but if the keeper has to make 2-3 big saves again, thats not dominance. Defend the middle, stop the cheap losses.

🔥🔥🔥 Need that intensity from the first 15 minutes, no slow starts.

Im not convinced by the setup if we keep leaving space behind the midfield. Props to Gakpo for working hard, but without better cover from the 6, teams will just switch and punish us. Tbh we need more control in those transition moments.

The quote about "playing with control" worries me, tbh. When we do that too long, opponents get their press set and suddenly our build-up looks mid. Also, where is the urgency in the box? 🤡

Thought that quote about "control in the middle" was a bit optimistic, because we still get bypassed too easily when the pivot turns late. Midfield needs faster decisions, otherwise it becomes chasing all night.

If we are going 4-3-3 again, i need those wide positions to be more aggressive, not just holding shape. 👀 Is the press really on when the ball goes back to the center backs?

If PSV really want to dominate possession like the article suggests, then the midfield has to stop getting stretched. I want Veerman and Sangare to be braver with the pass in behind, otherwise we just recycle and slow everything down. 🔥

Goal!! 🔥 The way they mention the pressing triggers, i get it. When the second ball drops to the midfield, PSV can jump on it and turn defense into instant chances.

If PSV actually pushes this high with the fullbacks, itll be peak. But i swear when Bergwijn drifts inside, we lose width and the press gets stretched. Still, if Til plays clever through balls, we look dangerous.
