Eindhovens Dagblad looks at PSV – FC Twente: “That’s going to be quite a battle next week”

Next Sunday, PSV already has the final league match of the 2025/2026 season on the agenda. Number 3 FC Twente will visit on Sunday at the Philips Stadion and for De Tukkers, this match is of great importance in the fight for a UEFA Champions League spot.

PSV won last Sunday in turn on the road at Go Ahead Eagles (1-4) and the Eindhoven daily newspaper saw that Bosz’s team had little trouble with the formation from Deventer. ''The Eindhoven team kept their heads cool and more than that. A dive by Ivan Perisic was the highlight of the first half'', the paper reported.

Next week, then, the match PSV - FC Twente is on the schedule and the ED expects an interesting fight for the top scorer’s title at Bosz’s team, since striker Ricardo Pepi, thanks to the 1-2 in Deventer, is now alongside Ismael Saibari. ''That will be quite a battle next week'', the local paper thinks in the run-up to the match against the number 3 in the Eredivisie.

The team of John van den Brom took third place from their competitors NEC on Sunday thanks to a 4-0 victory over Sparta Rotterdam and a 2-1 defeat for the Nijmegen side away at FC Groningen. As a result, FC Twente is two points ahead of Dick Schreuder's team with one match still to play.

With a victory at Philips Stadium, FC Twente is guaranteed in any case of participation in the Champions League qualifying round. With any other result, Van den Brom's team depends on the result of NEC at home against Go Ahead Eagles.

In the event of a draw by FC Twente, the Tukkers depend on what NEC does at home against Go Ahead Eagles. Both teams have a goal difference of +23, and a draw by the team from Enschede is therefore fatal if the Nijmegen side wins at home against Go Ahead.

In the event of a defeat, FC Twente must keep an eye on the result of Ajax as well when they play away at sc Heerenveen, besides NEC. An Amsterdam win and a loss for FC Twente could result in the team of Van den Brom being condemned to play-offs for the Conference League.

That PSV midfield looked so much more controlled. If the article is right about the quick rotations, that explains why we stopped getting pinned in our own half. Still want to see more end product though.
