He counted on an appearance for the Netherlands national team: “He was expecting to go to the World Cup a bit.”
1 min readJordan Teze had counted on being part of the Netherlands national team squad for the World Cup. The defender of AS Monaco enjoyed a strong season in France and believed that was enough to show to persuade national coach Ronald Koeman to give him a place in the squad for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The 25-year-old Teze admits that he was accounting for a call-up. "I hoped for it. I had been working towards it for quite a few years already. I knew what my goal was by the end of the season and I expected it maybe too, at least a little bit. But in the end it didn’t happen", he says in an interview with Mixed Zone of the NPO. "I can still be proud of myself, of the season I’ve had."
His brother, rapper Jozo, also doesn't understand why Teze has fallen out of the selection. "I think he can certainly add something to the team. He also simply belongs among the best passers in Europe. With his shot he can add a lot; he can split defenses open with his passes. That's something the Netherlands has a lot of trouble with."

Teze was a regular fixture last season at AS Monaco and was used in multiple positions. The defender played as a right-back, in central defense, and in the defensive midfield. Since making his debut for Oranje in June 2022, he has appeared four times for the Netherlands national team.

Eens. The quote about Netherlands having trouble splitting defenses is spot on. Also, 4 caps since 2022 is not nothing, you can see he has trust before.
Lol his brother claiming he is "one of the best passers of Europe" is a bit much. He looked good in France, but Oranje midfield balance matters too. Not saying Teze is washed, just that the competition was brutal.
I think the annoying part is he is useful on multiple positions. If you can play RB, CB, and even DM, thats such a swiss army knife. Maybe Koeman went more for experience in that specific role...
Fair play to Teze, Monaco had him cooking. Still, Koeman always picks a specific profile, i guess. But his passing range is exactly the kind of thing NL misses.
