Sam Lammers leaves due to the arrival of Weghorst | Tukkers want PSV striker as a replacement
1 min readSam Lammers appears to be heading into his final weeks as a player for FC Twente. According to De Telegraaf, the chance of a departure for the 29-year-old forward increases after the arrival of Wout Weghorst. The Enschede club also wants to sign another young striker as a stand-in for the Oranje international.
FC Twente officially presented Weghorst on Saturday morning. The experienced striker made the transfer from Ajax on a free transfer and put his signature on a contract for two years. With his arrival, the role of Lammers seems to become significantly smaller, making a transfer very likely.
"If FC Twente manages to sell Lammers for the desired amount, a young second striker will be added. For this, Jesper Uneken (PSV) is in the picture", writes De Telegraaf reporter Jeroen Kapteijns. Lammers is still contracted in Enschede until the summer of 2027.
The attacker was taken over from Rangers in the summer of 2024 and played 25 league matches for FC Twente last season. In those matches, he was involved in fourteen goals, thanks to six strikes and eight assists.
Over the years, Lammers built an impressive list of clubs. The striker went through PSV’s youth academy and then played for sc Heerenveen, Atalanta, Eintracht Frankfurt, Empoli, Sampdoria, Rangers and FC Utrecht, during which he made multiple loan appearances for another club.

Tbh i hope PSV doesnt do this just because the name is familiar. Uneken will need minutes, and Twente sounds like they want a "stand-in", not a starter.
That De Telegraaf link with Jesper Uneken is tasty 👀. Lammers getting squeezed after Weghorst makes sense, but PSV must be careful, dont sell him the wrong role.
"Daarvoor is Jesper Uneken (PSV) in beeld"... als ze hem willen, zet PSV meteen de hoofdprijs neer. Laat Twente eerst maar bewijzen dat ze met een jonge spits durven.
Weghorst transfervrij komt en dan ineens moet Lammers wijken, tbh dat is gewoon business. Toch jammer als Lammers weg moet, hij had vorig seizoen echt rendement.
Jesper Uneken als stand-in en dan Lammers eruit... dat klinkt wel logisch voor Twente. Maar ik hoop dat PSV dit niet weggeeft voor peanuts, want Uneken is echt een project.
If Uneken is really the replacement, that is a big statement from PSV. But i still need to see if he can handle being second-fiddle to a Dutch striker profile like Weghorst.
