Lots of interest in the World Cup: “First I’m going to recover for a bit.”
1 min readThe Curaçao coached by Dick Advocaat and PSV defender Armando Obispo is of course eliminated from the World Cup in North America, but that doesn’t mean the island’s players leave the tournament with shame. The Blue Wave did, after all, secure a historic point against Ecuador (0-0) and even managed to score against a powerhouse like Germany (7-1).
Above all, the match against Ecuador will not soon be forgotten. Thanks in part to an outstanding goalkeeper, Eloy Room, who was a backup keeper at PSV from 2017 to 2019, Curaçao earned a historic point.
Afterwards, Room was also named Man of the Match. Internationally as well, the goalie drew attention at several clubs.
The goalkeeper's contract with his current club Miami FC in Major League Soccer runs until December 2026 and, meanwhile, his agent has been inundated with phone calls. ''Many clubs have contacted my agent. But first I'll take a breather and then we'll put everything in order'', Room tells Voetbal International.

Despite the elimination, the former PSV player looks back on Curaçao's first-ever World Cup appearance with great pride. '''This World Cup still feels unreal. Everything still has to sink in, what we experienced here. The whole picture was fantastic. The goal against Germany, with despite the big defeat, the support of the supporters. And even today again, so many people from Curaçao cheering us on,'' continues the goalkeeper.
Room also looks back on his personal highlight during the World Cup and the fact that The Blue Wave managed to qualify in the first place. ''The most beautiful moment for me personally was my first save against Ecuador. All in all, it has been super beautiful. The people who at the time said it would never be possible to reach a World Cup with Curaçao—we showed that it can be done. That gives such an enormous sense of satisfaction'', the goalkeeper said.

"Eerst ga ik even bijkomen" is begrijpelijk, man.
