Valentijn Driessen expects a key role for PSV after the World Cup: “PSV brings in Arne Slot”

Valentijn Driessen has already mapped it out entirely for himself. The critic for De Telegraaf then writes it down in such a way on paper that you almost start to believe that it will indeed happen the way Driessen thinks it will.

What exactly is going on? Driessen asked about it on Sunday, directly, of the man—Ronald Koeman, that is. What does his home situation look like and will his wife Bartina still come over to the United States. It doesn’t seem to be in the cards because of her illness. And so there are likely to be major shifts at the KVNB this summer, Driessen thinks.

The journalist at De Telegraaf therefore also sees a key role for PSV in the KNVB’s search for a successor to Ronald Koeman. The De Telegraaf journalist and criticaster believes that after the World Cup, Koeman will start giving priority to his private situation. Driessen then uses the term musical chairs in relation to PSV, Peter Bosz, and Arne Slot.

'With a pencil, the end of Koeman as choice leader of Oranje can be sketched in. Regardless of the result of the Dutch national team at the World Cup', Driessen writes in his column in De Telegraaf. Koeman has achieved something, but not really much. Koeman did lead the Netherlands to the Nations League final and the semi-final of the European Championship in Germany, but Driessen thinks that after the World Cup he will make more time for his sick wife Bartina Koeman.

Because Oranje is facing a transition after the World Cup, the KNVB has to make a long-term decision, writes Driessen in his column. 'Filling the vacancy following an expected departure by Koeman can be a simple fill-in exercise for the policy-makers in Zeist. One that brings to mind January 1995. Back then, the incumbent national team coach Dick Advocaat moved from the KNVB to PSV as the successor to Kees Rijvers. In Zeist, the place of Advocaat was taken by Guus Hiddink, who had left for that at Valencia.'

Almost 32 years later, Driessen is therefore again providing PSV with a 'key role' in the 'chair-dance of top coaches'. 'It would fit nicely if, at the age of 62, Peter Bosz hands over the head coach position at PSV to see his final football dream come true: head coach of the Netherlands national team. While PSV brings in Arne Slot, who was sacked by Liverpool, to extend the league title and survive the competitive phase of the Champions League.'

Koeman is meanwhile 'freed from the critical football public and the annoying followers, who have been depriving him of the pleasure of being national team coach for longer.' He can therefore spend more time supporting his wife, according to Valentijn Driessen.
