Belgian media point to former PSV player after Netherlands–Algeria
1 min readIt will most likely not have escaped anyone in the Netherlands that the Netherlands national team lost the farewell match last Wednesday 0-1 to Algeria. As a result, Oranje had no good dress rehearsal for the World Cup in North America.

The broadcaster also can’t help but deliver a jab at former PSV player Noa Lang. Just like current PSV player Guus Til, Lang kept his place on the bench for the entire match against Algeria.
''Oh yes, Noa Lang remained, as one of the few, stuck to the bench in Rotterdam. Ah, but it wasn’t a party after all'', HLN says about it.
In other foreign media, people also write scathingly about the Dutch national team. ''Orange lacks the attacking power of previous tournaments. The obvious and long-standing shortcomings of the Netherlands are in the attack. In this era, the Netherlands has no attacking superstar. Even with Donyell Malen in top form, the Dutch find it difficult up front. The late substitute appearance of Wout Weghorst, a slow striker who only becomes slower, underscored what the Netherlands is missing,'' according to The Athletic.
Also in Sweden, Oranje's second opponent in the group stage, there is devastating reporting. The Swedes themselves lost without any chance last Monday 3-1 to Norway. ''"Nederland will have enjoyed what it saw from Sweden on Monday, but when the team itself had to train against Algeria, the preparation certainly was not ideal'', writes Expressen.

Valentijn Driessen die Koeman meteen al afrekent na 0-1, kan bijna niet anders in de pers maar pijnlijk blijft het wel. Als Lang en Til opnieuw startend spelen nalaten, dan is het geen "galamatch" meer, dan is het vooral een bevestiging van zorgen.
The Athletic zegt dat Oranje geen aanvallende superster heeft, en ik voel die frustratie. Maar als je ziet wat er gebeurde met Malen in topvorm en dan Weghorst laat invallen, dan is het vooral: weinig tempo en weinig gevaar. Lijkt me echt een structureel probleem, niet alleen een keuze voor Lang.
"Koeman niet sparen als het straks op zondag 14 juni ... meteen misgaat" lol, they act like its already over. But yeah, Japan first is brutal if Oranje cant press and build faster.
"Oh ja, Noa Lang bleef als een van de weinigen aan de bank gekluisterd in Rotterdam." Daar heb ik vooral een probleem mee, ze maken het meteen persoonlijk. Guus Til ook erbij gooien helpt niet. Dit is toch vooral Koeman die een aanvalslijn moet laten draaien, niet een losse PSV'er afrekenen.
Noa Lang op de bank en ze vergeten ook echt niet dat Til hetzelfde deed. tbh als je aanvallend niks brengt, krijg je dit soort koppen echt over je heen, ook als Koeman het wil relativeren.
Valentijn Driessen op kop of niet, dit is gewoon een wakker schudmoment voor Oranje. Als Noa Lang en Til samen 90 min op de bank zitten, dan voelt dat als een statement dat ze geen plan A hebben. Maar goed, PSV-fans weten ook dat bank zitten lang niet altijd slecht is als de wedstrijdvisie klopt.
0-1 van Algerije is natuurlijk pijnlijk, maar dit stuk slaat echt door richting Noa Lang. Waarom word Guus Til hier ook naast gezet, en waarom blijft die kritiek hangen bij "op de bank"? Tbh ik snap het sentiment, maar het gaat ook om de hele aanval die geen vuist maakte.
The Athletic nailed it: the late Weghorst sub just highlighted the issue, slow striker, no rhythm. Im more annoyed we can't create chances even when Malen is supposedly in form... frustrating for someone expecting more.
Koeman getting dragged already is wild, but 0-1 in that kind of "tune-up" is painful. That HLN line about "it was no party" about Lang is kinda petty though, he didnt even play.
Not surprised Belgium throws Noa Lang under the bus, but tbh the whole Oranje attack looked toothless. If Til keeps getting starts but we still see the same lack of threat, its not only on one guy.
