Does Wim Kieft (read: Valentijn Driessen) have a point with his criticism of Ismael Saibari?

1 min read

Feel free to settle in if Valentijn Driessen calls Wim Kieft for the column in the Friday and/or Saturday edition of De Telegraaf. Because Driessen doesn’t hold back, as you know. Kieft doesn’t either, of course.

Wim Kieft often is happy to join in on that, following the opinion of Valentijn Driessen as well, as is the case this time too. PSV and Ismael Saibari are approaching a deal worth millions for a transfer to an absolute German top club, and that turns out to be fuel for criticism.

Kieft, read Driessen: Driessen is on good terms with Kieft, thinks that Ismael Saibari is ready to take the step to Bayern Munich. The Moroccan midfielder is already personally in agreement with Der Rekordmeister, but they now still have to work things out with PSV. However, that does not seem likely to pose a problem. Soon, PSV and FC Bayern appear to be on the verge of reaching an agreement. Kieft believes that Saibari could have meant a bit more for PSV, but is that criticism really justified?

'It could be an international breakthrough this summer. With Morocco at the World Cup and then at one of Europe’s best club sides', Kieft gets things underway in his column in De Telegraaf. 'Saibari is a very good, complete player, but one who comes from the Dutch league. Given his qualities, Saibari should be able to make the step', expects the former PSV striker.

'However, no one can provide the guarantee that he will succeed at Bayern Munich. There are more qualitatively strong players at that club, and the Bundesliga is a different story than the Eredivisie. On the other hand, the German league is in the shadow of the Premier League in England and the Primera Division in Spain', Kieft continues his account.

'You hope that Saibari has the urge to prove himself to shine at the World Cup and then at Bayern Munich, because that was sometimes missing from him at PSV. Even though he showed himself in the last season in all the big and important matches. The amounts being mentioned for Saibari of 60, 70 million euros have been very generously estimated. PSV will without a doubt receive a substantial transfer fee, with which they will have to bring in a replacement for Saibari,' said Wim Kieft and Valentijn Driessen.

I dont mind the aggression in the wide areas, but the article's "controlled chaos" only works if the 8 tracks the runner. If that isnt happening, we end up giving away cheap chances on the edge of the box. 👀

Wie kijkt mee? I swear PSV always have one moment where everything clicks, then we go quiet for 10 minutes. Please tell me the tactics solve that, not just the individual quality. 🤡

Eens. But cmon, that quote about patient buildup... we tried patience for 20 minutes last time and got punished once. Make it faster, or accept we will need goals early 🚀

goated move by the keeper to be brave off his line, that was big. but if we play that high again next match, i want the CBs to be ruthless with second balls, otherwise its gonna get spicy 🤬

"PSV Inside" is saying the right things, but i still worry about the back line when we lose shape. Need the fullbacks to hold, not chase every run. 🔥

Wie kijkt mee? i swear the subs changed the game tone immediately. The only issue is we wait too long to bring them on, ngl.

"PSV Inside" really highlights the small details. The way the fullback steps in to compress the center is smart, but we need better cover when the ball turns over near midfield.

"PSV can be lethal on the break" no cap. Watkins-style runs or not, if the transitions are on point, they score. But if the first pass is sloppy, it becomes mid. 💯

Tbh i think the midfield balance will decide it. If Saibari isnt dropping into that pocket, we look open between the lines and opponents will turn it into 2v1s.

People saying "just press harder" dont get that the spacing matters. The article hinting at better rest defense is the key, because PSV can win duels and still get exposed if the back line is too high. 1-2 meters makes a difference every time. 🔥

That midfield setup is risky, tbh. If they lose the first ball, the counter threat is instant, especially with wide runners. I hope the holding 6 is disciplined, not roaming. 🤬

tbh i still dont fully trust the right side build-up. when the winger doesnt track back, it feels like we give away the transition in 2 seconds 💀⚽

If PSV are actually pressing like this in midfield, it changes the whole game. Props to whoever coached the timing, because you can see the rest defending faster instead of dropping late.

MOTM for me is whoever is holding the line in the back. When we start dropping too deep, you can feel the stress building, then the counter comes... and bam. Need more intensity in duels next match 🔥

If PSV are really building through the half-spaces again, then this is where it gets exciting. But i need to see the full-backs actually overlap instead of standing flat. Otherwise we look like we are playing chess with no king... 👀

"PSV are playing with more structure lately" is true, but tbh it still looks shaky against pressing. Zahavi/Veerman need to be quicker on the second ball, otherwise it becomes chaos in midfield 💀

If PSV's build-up is still this direct, i get why Bruma would get targeted in transition. But surely we can keep the ball for one more phase before the final pass, right? 🤔⚽

If PSV go with that same press higher up, then we finally punish teams on their first pass. 👀 Dumfries has to run the right channel though, otherwise it becomes predictable.
