Rik Elfrink clearly on interest in PSV: “in a great and wonderful player”
1 min readEarlier this week, transfer journalist Mounir Boualin of Soccernews.nl released a report that PSV would be interested in the Serbian Filip Kostic. Kostic would be expected to replace Anass Salah-Eddine, who has returned to AS Roma.
The 33-year-old Servier previously came out for FC Groningen and is now a free agent since his departure from Juventus. ''Multiple sources from Serbia tell SoccerNews that PSV is also keeping Kostic on its radar'', Boualin wrote earlier this week on the website of Soccoernews.nl. Kostic has a great career and can safely be seen as a major and great player.
Also PSV watcher Rik Elfrink from Eindhovens Dagblad knows that PSV is interested in the former footballer of FC Groningen. Elfrink reports this in the podcast Heet van de Herdgang of Eindhovens Dagblad. It could be called a stunt if PSV were to manage to sign Kostic.
Despite this, nothing concrete is happening yet between PSV and Kostic. ''I find it a very interesting name. It is playing, but at the moment it is not yet very concrete. So it's not the case that Kostic is almost about to join,'' Elfrink says.
The Serb can get around on the entire left flank, and the PSV watcher now knows that too. ''At first I thought: isn’t he a left winger? But I’ve now understood that he can cover the entire left side. In fourteen seasons he missed eleven or twelve matches. An enormously fit guy. Of course that appeals, that you can get a player who seems, like Ivan Perisic, to be busy with his trade. He is 33 years old, so also still a lot younger'', the journalist continues.
Former FC Groningen director Hans Nijland was always hugely impressed by Kostic, so the PSV watcher knows. ''Maybe I should call Hans Nijland about it sometime. He was always very enthusiastic about Kostic at FC Groningen. And I have to say: Nijland had a good hand in bringing players to Groningen. Kostic has really had a great career. Yes, who knows. Maybe I’m paying too much attention to it now; we shouldn’t make a big deal of it. So it’s not yet one hundred percent concrete, not yet in the final stage. On the contrary. Eindelijk eens een naam met legs. Kostic fit for almost a whole season for 14 years is no joke. But if "there are multiple backs in view", we better not miss our main targets waiting on this one. 🔥
the interesting part for me is the Perisic comparison. If we get a left option who can actually play consistently across the flank, we solve way more than just "replacement Salah-Eddine". 👀⚽
"Meerdere bronnen vanuit Servië" klinkt leuk, maar PSV usually move quietly. The fact it is described as "stunt" tells me it is far from done. Also 33 is solid physically, but can we afford that age for squad rotation?
33 en nog transfervrij klinkt alsof PSV eindelijk een ervaren, fitte back zou pakken. Maar als er "meerdere backs in beeld" zijn, dan ruikt het ook een beetje naar uitzoeken ipv doorpakken. Als ze Kostic willen als Perisic-achtige invloed aan de linkerkant, dan moeten ze het meteen goed tactisch inpassen.
"Ik vind het een heel interessante naam" is echt de juiste houding. Kostic kan links de hele flank bestrijken, maar ik wil wel concreet bewijs zien, want "nog niet heel concreet" klinkt voor mij als wachten op iets dat misschien nooit komt. 👀
If Kostic really can cover the whole left side, that is exactly the profile we keep needing. Still dont buy the hype until there is something concrete though, because Elfrink basically says its not close.
