Ruben van Bommel candid about the title race: “We look at ourselves”
1 min readRuben van Bommel was able to celebrate his first league title as a PSV player last season despite the fact that the winger was sidelined for almost the entire season. Last season, PSV became the earliest league champions ever, but despite that Van Bommel expects more competition for the championship in the coming season.
This tells the left winger talking with Eindhovens Dagblad. ''I think the competition will be more exciting than last year. Ajax seems to be putting everything into catching up with PSV and at Feyenoord there are also many changes, but we are looking at ourselves'', says Van Bommel.
Last weekend, the attacker made his return in the PSV shirt after more than ten months of injury trouble. Van Bommel played about thirty minutes in the friendly match against Union Saint-Gilliose (7-3).
The left winger is very pleased with this and also looks forward to 2026/2027 with great confidence. “And it’s wonderful that I can talk about it again. Being able to take part in nearly everything in training and now even in matches gives me a great feeling. I’m on the way back and a lot is still like it was,” continues PSV’s number 7.

In the coming weeks Van Bommel will do everything to get more minutes in the hope of being able to return to his level after his serious injury. ''I hope to play more and more in the coming weeks. It's that simple. And I'm going to work my hardest for that. But at the moment I'm still in the process of returning,'' the striker concludes.

"Wij kijken naar onszelf" is precies wat PSV vorig seizoen scherp hield. Maar als Ajax en Feyenoord echt zo doorpakken, moeten wij dus ook aanvallend sneller door schakelen, anders wordt het lastig. Van Bommel terug na 10+ maanden is echt huge, 30 minutes zei genoeg over de mentaliteit 🔥
I love that he keeps it grounded:
