Former PSV goalkeeper continues career at FC Volendam
1 min readIn the hunt for a new goalkeeper, relegated FC Volendam has come out with former PSV goalkeeper Hidde Jurjus. This is reported by Voetbal International.
Jurjus has been available as a free transfer since his departure from FC Groningen and the former PSV goalkeeper received offers from several clubs. In addition to FC Volendam, NAC Breda and SC Cambuur were also interested in Jurjus.
In the fishing village, the goalkeeper is set to become the successor to Kayne van Oevelen. Van Oevelen has left for Ipswich Town for a record fee of four million euros, after last season's promotion to the Premier League.
In 2016, Jurjus, as goalkeeper of De Graafschap, still played an important role in the title race. Thanks to a 1-1 draw in the last match at home against Ajax, PSV was still able to secure the national title thanks to a 1-3 victory over PEC Zwolle.
In the summer of 2016, the goalkeeper eventually left for PSV. However, he never made his debut for PSV’s first team, and Jurjus had to make do mainly with appearances for Jong PSV in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie.
During his time with PSV, the goalkeeper was loaned in 2017/2018 to Roda JC Kerkrade and from 2018 to 2020 again to De Graafschap. After that, the closer moved to KFC Uerdingen 05 in Germany, before returning in 2021 to De Vijverberg with De Graafschap.
After spending two years again as a goalkeeper for the Superboeren, Jurjus moved to FC Groningen, where he began as the reserve goalkeeper and during the course of the 2023/2024 season became the first-choice goalkeeper. After the arrival of Etienne Vaessen, Jurjus became the second-choice goalkeeper again at Groningen.

Volendam getting a transfervrij keeper is a solid move. But tbh, replacing Kayne van Oevelen for a record 4 million is big pressure, and Jurjus will be judged fast on consistency and decision-making.
"In de jacht op een nieuwe doelman" en dan kom je bij een voormalig PSV-keeper uit... Fijn dat hij nooit stilvalt, maar ik vraag me af of Volendam vooral stabiliteit wil of echt een game-changer.
Volendam replacing Kayne van Oevelen for 4 million is a statement. Jurjus coming in as transfervrije keeper is smart, but tbh it feels more like depth than a true long-term plan 🔥
Die 1-1 tegen Ajax in 2016 klinkt nog steeds als peak Jurjus. Toch snap ik dat hij bij PSV nooit doorbrak, Jong PSV is een andere wereld.
Interesting one ngl. Jurjus was always more "PSV later" than first-choice, but still feels like a reminder how tough it is at keeper level at PSV.
If he ended up at Volendam, thats kinda wild... Jurjus always felt like a PSV "almost" story. Wish him luck, but it shows how hard it is to break through at PSV.
