Van Bommel is presented with a dilemma involving Belgium: "I think he can do that."

Mark van Bommel has officially been presented as the head coach of Belgium. With that, Van Bommel becomes the successor to Rudi Garcia, whom the KBVB said farewell to earlier this week.

In addition, the PSV icon will also have to deal with a difficult question. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has, in fact, indicated that he will not be able to play for the Red Devils for at least a year.

According to former footballer Patrick Goots, Van Bommel is the right man for the job of Belgium head coach. Goots also thinks the former PSV player will handle Courtois’s situation well.

This tells the former pro opposite Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad. ''I think he can do that. He proved at Antwerp that he doesn’t look at names. He doesn’t look for compromises and simply puts out his best team. For us, of course, it’s difficult to say how he will deal with the situation around Courtois. I assume he will certainly travel to Madrid to speak with Thibaut'', says Goots.

Goots also sees a big difference there between Dutch and Belgians. "If Van Bommel thinks that the situation Courtois has suggested cannot be done, then he will just say so as well. He remains a Dutchman, you know. They have the guts to always say how things are. Still, often more than we Belgians," the former striker says.

In the Nations League, De Rode Duivels have a tough assignment with France, Italy and Turkey as their opponents. ''But Van Bommel does have a clear vision. He will immediately try to put his stamp on things'', according to Goots.
