Peter Bosz speaks up for the dismissed coach: “I don’t know all the ins and outs”
1 min readLast season, Peter Bosz with PSV became the earliest league champion after Feyenoord, led by Robin van Persie, on 5 April failed to get beyond a 0-0 draw at FC Volendam, while PSV a day earlier won 4-3 against FC Utrecht. With the Rotterdam club, van Persie was still able to qualify for the Champions League, but was fired anyway.
Under the leadership of the all-time top scorer of the Netherlands national team, Feyenoord had a good start to the competition last season and as a result the team was even, according to some analysts, set down as the main contender for the national title. After the home defeat against PSV (2-3) on 26 October 2025, however, things went downhill for the club from Rotterdam-South.
Ultimately, PSV went into the winter break with a lead of eleven points over the men from Rotterdam, and partly because of that, it was really no longer a question of whether PSV would become champions, but when PSV would become champions. In the end, Bosz’s side was definitively confirmed as national champions in matchday 29.
In addition, Van Persie had to make way on the pitch at De Kuip to make room for Giovanni van Bronckhorst. Van Bronckhorst had previously been the head responsible person at Feyenoord from 2015 to 2019.
In conversation with the media Sportnews, Bosz nevertheless takes up the former world striker and current PSV coach, questioning the new club leadership's decision to sideline Van Persie. ''Feyenoord finished second and qualified for the Champions League, but the coach still got shown the door. I don’t know all the ins and outs of why Feyenoord made this decision. I think Van Persie can ultimately become a very good coach. I think he’s a very interesting coach'', Bosz says.
The native apple grower from Apeldoorn thinks that the former attacker here is going to draw a lot of lessons in order to become a better coach. ''I had the opportunity to talk to him a number of times about football, and in that I noticed that he said sensible things and that he is very passionate about the sport. That makes him a very interesting coach. Of course, he’s disappointed about the dismissal, but in the end it will only make him better,'' said PSV coach.

That line about "Ik weet niet alle ins en outs" is pretty fair. Still, you can't ignore that Feyenoord dropped after the PSV loss 2-3, and that created pressure. Bosz saying Van Persie can become a great coach does feel genuine, though.
Bosz zegt "Ik weet niet alle ins en outs" en tbh dat snap ik wel. Maar als Feyenoord zo slecht ging lopen na die 2-3, dan voelde het eerlijk gezegd al als een onvermijdelijke breuk. Van Persie kan tactisch echt wat, maar het was te weinig geduld denk ik.
Bosz die Van Persie verdedigt snap ik wel, 0-0 bij Volendam was gewoon zo'n kantelmoment. Ik vind wel dat Feyenoord tenminste iets van tijd en vertrouwen moet geven aan een jonge trainer, al voelt het achteraf altijd logisch om te wisselen.
