AZ points to Sven Mijnans: “Important both on the pitch and in the locker room.”
1 min readSince two and a half weeks, Sven Mijnans has been allowed to officially call himself a PSV player. Mijnans has come over for around thirteen million euros from AZ after, a year earlier, this move to PSV was still blocked by the management of the Alkmaarders.
According to Wouter Goes, his former teammate at AZ, many things have changed in Alkmaar since the midfielder left for PSV. Goes says this in an interview with Voetbal International.
The defender is asked whether the departure of Mijnans is a major loss for the team of coach Leeroy Echteld. ''I think he was important both on the pitch and in the dressing room'', says an open-hearted Goes to VI.
Yet the central defender who sometimes makes many a football fan in the Netherlands have blood under their fingernails due to irritating behaviour believes that taking the step to PSV is the right move for his former teammate. ''He is also a good friend of mine, but in the end it is the right step for him to leave. I still speak to him privately and he is enjoying it'', continues the AZ player.

Goes also notes that he needs to take on more responsibility within the Alkmaar Zaanstreek squad now that Mijnans is officially a PSV player. ''I feel like I need to do a bit more there with the young boys we have. I want to make progress this season,'' the defender said.

idk about "right step" already, but the fact he's still enjoying it at PSV after the transfer is a good sign. If AZ fans are calling him irritating, maybe that means he's got that edge we always want in the squad 😂
Going saying he had the right attitude for PSV is big. Also 13 million is no small gamble, so should translate quickly in starts and leadership. 👀🔥
Love that Mijnans is "both on the field and in the dressing room" type. If Echteld can use him to grow the young guys, that is exactly what we need. Let's hope he's a steady influence and not just a decent passer.
