Bosz thought about the topic: “You hope that we’ve done something about it there.”

This week, PSV’s squad was on a training camp in Germany to prepare for the 2026/2027 season. In doing so, Peter Bosz also paid attention to the theme of winners and a winning mentality.

That tells Bosz in conversation with Sportnieuws.nl. The coach showed some examples to his squad, as he says.

''I thought about a theme, and then I came to winners and a winning mentality. If you try to describe that, it’s quite difficult... Then you look at the group and then you see that actually everyone is a winner, but in their own way. I find that interesting,'' says Bosz.

Meanwhile, the 62-year-old PSV coach also shared his own experience from his youth with his players’ group. ''I experienced it myself with the UEFA youth team with Ger Blok. He was a real Amsterdammer, who thought we were just bumpkins from Apeldoorn. He wanted to teach us what a winners’ mentality was, but at first I only thought: that man is crazy. But when I got older and had more experience, I finally understood what he meant. He hadn’t managed to make me, as a young boy, fully understand it, but looking back he was right,'' the coach continues.

Also, Bosz asked his squad how they view a winning mentality. ''I tried to explain to our group of many young boys what a winning mentality is. Most of them raised their hand, including Joey Veerman. So then I asked him: why do you consider yourself a winner? Then he said: ‘If you only have a winning mentality, if you break someone’s nose, then I don’t have that''', the coach said.

The coach also told his players that he is not a fan of unsportsmanlike behavior, but that he does have a great deal of admiration for the passion of South American football teams. ''But do you then have to kick or hit someone to be a winner? No, I don’t like that. If players at an opponent try to conspire their way into getting a red card, then I will never talk about a winners’ mentality. But I do find the passion of the Argentinians special, for example when you see them during the national anthem… I really do think that has something'', Bosz speaks candidly.

In addition, the born Eindhoven resident also showed a fragment of former American football player Tom Brady to the PSV squad. ''I did think carefully about how I wanted to present it, because players obviously shouldn’t think: what is the coach talking about again? I therefore discussed it, and one of the staff members then showed a video of Tom Brady. It was spot-on what he said about a winners’ mentality. That’s how you show it to the players to inspire the boys. You hope that we get something out of it, because soon there will be no excuses. We just have to deliver. All the players say they want to win, but then it comes down to this: what are you willing to give in matches and training in order to win?'', the coach says.

The meeting was closed by Bosz with a quote from Brady. ''One of the things Brady said was that at the Super Bowl he would never be faced with surprises. He had never experienced anything in a game that he had not yet experienced in training. That is exactly what I also try to do on the field with the training'', the coach concludes.
