PSV stronghold creates clarity: 'My focus is here and nowhere else'
1 min readDespite an exit clause in his contract and alleged interests from abroad, Mauro Junior is not planning to leave this summer at PSV. The new captain for the 2026/2027 season lets this be known to Eindhovens Dagblad.
In 2017, Mauro made his debut for PSV’s first team during the away match against VVV-Venlo (2-5) and, via a loan spell at Heracles Almelo in 2019/2020, the Brazilian returned in 2020. Under then coach Roger Schmidt, the midfielder and defender, partly because of many injuries within the squad, was given more opportunities to play and thus grew into an important twelfth man for PSV.
Last season, Mauro was one of the key holders within Peter Bosz's squad both in midfield and in defense. Now, the Brazilian has been appointed by Bosz as the new captain until Jerdy Schouten has recovered from his serious injury.
About the ED the newly appointed captain doesn't want to know anything about a transfer. ''No. Now I'm happy that I'm captain and it's a great moment. My focus is here and on nothing else. It always comes down to the next match, starting with Saturday against Villarreal'', the Brazilian makes clear.
In addition, Mauro also addresses his appointment as captain. ''It has been a wonderful journey and I never would have dared to dream, years ago, that I would experience all of this. After playing here for so many years and then being captain? You do that with pleasure. It is a great honor to be allowed to have that at a big club like PSV and it makes me happy'', said the versatile footballer.

"(something about tactical flexibility)" is exactly what I wanted to hear. Against better pressing sides, PSV still needs a quicker option in midfield, otherwise the back line gets forced long. IMO the lineup only makes sense if the 8 is brave enough to receive on the half turn, not always sideways.
🔥🔥🔥 That PSV intensity is what I missed. If they get that press working from minute 1, opponents will panic and give up the ball in dangerous zones. Goated workrate, please keep it consistent.
If PSV really want to control games, dont tell me it comes from passy-pass midfield with no urgency. Til the fullbacks move earlier, teams will just sit in the half-space and mug the build-up. Also, that quote about "patience" sounds nice but patience without tempo is mid.
