PSV was reminded of Romelu Lukaku, who in turn is impressed by PSV’s statistics

Out of nowhere, his name fell this week. This in relation to a future at PSV. He can certainly be called a world-class striker, because his career is truly impressive. In the autumn of 2025, however, he lost without a chance with his club of PSV. With him absent, it ended 6-2 at the Philips Stadium.

Romelu Lukaku is kept up to date on how things are run at PSV for all seasons only, because through fellow international Johan Bakayoko, Lukaku is regularly briefed about PSV. That especially applied to the seasons in which Bakayoko was a PSV player. In that capacity, Lukaku was also interviewed once by PSV TV and said that he was following PSV partly because of Bakayoko’s presence.

Some years ago, the Belgian top striker spoke out, saying he was impressed by the statistics that PSV could provide under Peter Boz. Analyst Robert Maaskant, in turn, does think that Lukaku could fit in at PSV. A longer stay for Pepi at PSV now seems further away than ever.

At Sportnieuws.nl, two surprising names are mentioned as possible successors for Pepi. ''Now I want to put forward two sexy options: Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United and Romelu Lukaku, who may leave Napoli,'' says presenter Damian Vlottes at Sportnieuws.nl

According to Robert Maaskant, however, PSV would not be wise to sign Lukaku because of his age (33). ''You shouldn't go for Lukaku with Ivan Perisic there as well. Then the transfers afterwards will produce absolutely nothing anymore. But from a sporting perspective, it certainly could fit. Don't underestimate what kind of strong guy that is, and what you could certainly benefit from'', said the former coach.

Maaskant also has some doubts about Zirkzee. ''I just think Zirkzee has played far too little. Not only at Manchester United, but really everywhere. He has played for Bologna, but that was also two years ago,'' said the former coach of, among others, NAC Breda and Willem II.
