PSV talent stays on board longer
1 min readPSV has decided to keep the eighteen-year-old talent Austyn Jones at the club longer. PSV has extended Jones’ contract until mid-2029, and the forward will join Jong PSV definitively starting next season.
The attacker, with both a Dutch and an American passport, came over in the summer of 2023 from the youth ranks of FC Utrecht and made his debut last season under Stijn Schaars at Jong PSV. Jones was in seventeen KKD matches good for four goals.
Across from the club channel of PSV, Jones says he is pleased with this contract extension. "PSV sees a future in me, and that gives me a great deal of confidence. In the run-up, I may train with the first team, where I hope to finally get a foothold one day. This is once again a very fine step in that direction," said Jones.
For the upcoming season, the forward hopes to convince coach Peter Bosz enough to make his debut for PSV’s first team. In addition, Jones already has a number of youth international appearances for the Netherlands to his name.

Also Jan Vennegoor of Hesslink, as Manager of Young PSV Football Affairs, is enthusiastic about Jones. ''Austyn is a player with very specific, interesting attributes. In recent years he has made great progress, and we are convinced that he can continue along that line. We look forward to seeing him play in our shirt in the coming years as well,'' said Vennegoor of Hesselink to PSV's club channel.

That quote about being "more proactive" is nice, but i want to see it in the duels, not just possession. Cody's pressing has to be tighter, otherwise we get dragged wide and the wingbacks get exposed. 🔥
Lol i love the energy, but i think the tactical tweak was too reactive. PSV should dictate the tempo earlier, not wait for the opponent to settle. 👀
Biggest worry for me is the defensive line when we lose the second ball. If they dont control the midfield screens, the fullbacks will keep getting exposed 🔥
I disagree with the idea that we should rotate heavily. The team rhythm matters, and PSV when settled look way sharper in transition. Keep the spine the same and just tweak one spot, not three 👀
If PSV really went with that midfield shape, i get the intention but it still feels like we leave space behind the ball. Luuk in that role better be aggressive, otherwise it turns into a slow build and Ajax types will punish transition. 👀⚽
"PSV Inside" saying the next step is consistency... yeah but consistency needs ruthless finishing too. How many big chances did they waste last match? 🤬
Theo is so important for the balance, but sometimes he takes one touch too many. Against a sharper counter-press team that one delay will hurt.
Wtf, how is it still the same fullback mistakes every week 🤡💀. If they fix the defensive transitions, this team becomes a title machine again. Tonight i need 90 minutes of discipline, not "hope and pray" defending.
"PSV Inside" talks about pressing intensity, but tbh the real issue is the spacing between the 8 and the winger. When that gap opens, the press turns into walking into midfield and handing them free turns. Improve that and we look scary.
If PSV really went with that build-up structure, i can see why the press looked more organized. Gut feeling though, we still need a midfielder who can turn on the half-turn faster or we get stuck.
Eens. But idk, last match our fullbacks were kinda exposed when the press got bypassed 🤡. If the coaches tell them to stay narrower, we win that game pretty comfortably.
"Inside PSV" feels like they are finally trusting the right side buildup. If Veerman is on it today, De Jong-like control is there. Let Zahavi roam though, he still finds pockets way too well 🔥⚽
If PSV go back to that high press without controlling the second ball, Ajax will punish them every time. Need Hirving around the box more and Saibari to connect quicker, otherwise it turns into lots of running and no threat.
If PSV go with that midfield shape again, we will be way too open on counters. Gakpo looked dangerous but we need more control in the first 60 minutes, not just vibes. Otherwise Feyenoord will punish it.
