PSV shows interest in Benfica defender
1 min readAt PSV, a busy transfer summer is expected with incoming and outgoing players. There is a good chance that, after the World Cup, Ismael Saibari and Sergino Dest will leave Eindhoven.
Especially for the latter player, PSV will go on the transfer market to find a replacement. It was already clear earlier that PSV will be looking for a replacement for Jerdy Schouten this coming summer, and a left-back is also not out of the question since it is still unclear where Anass Salah-Eddine’s future lies.
Now it appears that PSV, according to the Turkish outlet Puskas Sport, has shown interest in right-back Sidny Lopes Cabral. The 23-year-old defender from Cape Verde has been active for Benfica since January and has drawn a great deal of attention from various European clubs.
Earlier, Trabzonspor was mentioned by Puskas Sports as a possible new club for the right back. In addition, PSV would have to tolerate competition at home from Feyenoord in the battle for the defender.
Partly due to the possible departure of Dest, PSV would have ended up with Cabral. The full-back is now preparing with Cape Verde for the 2026 World Cup in North America, where the African nation in the group stage will face European champion Spain, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia.

The Cabral vs Trabzonspor mention is wild, now it is PSV and Feyenoord fighting too. For me the biggest tell is his role at Benfica, if he plays regularly then its a W, if not then it is a risk. 👀💯
"PSV toont interesse" is leuk, maar het blijft volgens mij vooral concurrentiespel met die Feyenoord-lijn. Als Cabral in beeld is, betekent het waarschijnlijk dat ze iets zien in zijn Europese minuten bij Benfica. Hopelijk pakken ze dan ook echt door, geen geruchten-circus. 🤬
Feyenoord erbij en Trabzonspor genoemd... dus dit gaat weer een echte race worden. Als Dest echt na het WK weggaat dan moeten ze snel schakelen, want anders krijg je alleen nog 'mid' opties. Goated of miss, zo voelt het nu. 💀
"Mede door het mogelijke vertrek van Dest" ... so basically PSV are reacting again instead of planning ahead. Not saying it will fail, but i prefer a clear sporting plan over 3 weeks of rumors. 😅
Right back upgrade yes, but left-back situation is still murky. If Salah-Eddine goes or stalls, we end up fixing one side while the other bleeds goals. ⚽
Cabral from Benfica but only since January, so is he a starter already or more of a rotational "project"? 🤔🔥 If PSV pay big and he is not guaranteed, that is mid-window panic buying.
Ik snap de reden, maar PSV heeft ook al Schouten en mogelijk Salah-Eddine als puzzelstuk. Als ze Cabral pakken naast die zoektocht wordt het wel druk in de selectie. Niet per se erg, maar dan moet er ook meteen een plan zijn qua systeem, anders krijg je herhaling van vorig seizoen. 🙄
Idk hoor, Sidny Lopes Cabral klinkt als een 'Benfica-project'. Als het niveau snel moet, vind ik Feyenoord als concurrent echt geen fijn vooruitzicht. Maar goed, Dest moet natuurlijk wel vervangen worden... 👀
Saibari out, Dest out, Schouten replacement hunting... PSV are turning into a factory this summer. Cabral looks promising, but I wanna see whether he can handle Eredivisie pressure and not just European hype.
Als ze Cabral halen voor Dest is dat best logisch. Maar met Schouten-plek en mogelijk Salah-Eddine... dit wordt wel een mega-chooselijst, ik ben benieuwd wie echt prioriteit krijgt.
If Dest really goes, Cabral feels like a smart Dutch-minded replacement. But Feyenoord also sniffing around is worrying, competition in one window is always chaos.
Interessant, maar ik zie Cabral nog niet als de perfecte match voor wat PSV nodig heeft. Rechtsback is niet alleen een positie, het is ook ritme met de winger, en daar twijfel ik. Tbh eerst maar eens bekijken hoe hij zich houdt tegen Spanje en Uruguay in die WK poule. 👀
Sidny Lopes Cabral lijkt me echt zo'n type speler dat PSV kan laten ontploffen in de opbouw. Maar als Dest vertrekt, heb je wel iemand nodig die meteen defensief staat. Wie gaat die rol dan precies overnemen? 🔥⚽
