PSV goalkeeper loaned out next season
1 min readThe chance is high that Niek Schiks will be loaned out to PSV next season to gain more experience in professional football. This season, Schiks was the undisputed number 1 for Jong PSV and made his debut for the senior team on 8 February in the away match against FC Groningen (1-2).
After this match, Schiks was chosen by PSV as Star of the Match and now it seems there is a chance that the goalkeeper will follow the same path as former PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet. Zoet, namely, played on loan at RKC Waalwijk from 2011 to 2013 and in 2013 he was appointed as the new first-choice goalkeeper by then head coach Phillip Cocu.
With that news, transfer journalist Mounir Boualin from Soccernews.nl comes forward. ''Niek Schiks will very likely be loaned out. We already reported that a few weeks ago: that PSV wants to extend his contract and then wants to loan him out'', the journalist says in the Transfermind podcast.
Boualin also says that fellow provincial club RKC Waalwijk would love to borrow the goalkeeper. ''RKC Waalwijk would very much like to loan him. It fits with the expectation that PSV will, in the short term, renegotiate and extend his contract'', the transfer journalist said.

The Helmond forward also thinks it is only a matter of time before the clubs reach an agreement on a loan transfer for Schiks. ''That looks good. That will just work out. And RKC Waalwijk, they are secretly already counting on him. They have the belief that he will choose RKC. So the chance is high that the deal will go through entirely and that next season he will play for RKC Waalwijk on a loan basis,'' concludes Boualin.

ngl im a bit torn. RKC is a good step, but i want to know if PSV really has a plan for his long-term role, not just "rent and forget". 👀
Does this mean we are still not fully trusting our backup options? If Cocu ever did it with Zoet, fair enough, but i want to see Schiks level up fast. 🔥
Verhuur naar RKC lijkt me logisch. Als Schiks echt onbetwist nr. 1 was bij Jong PSV, dan heeft hij nu betaald voetbal nodig. Hopelijk krijgt hij bij RKC ook echt minuten, niet alleen cup-gedoe. 🔥
This makes sense. If Schiks was undisputed at Jong PSV and already debuted vs Groningen, a loan can harden him up fast, like Zoet did.
"Niek Schiks gaat hoogstwaarschijnlijk verhuurd worden" ... good for his development, but i hope we have a clear plan and not just another stopover goalkeeper. RKC Waalwijk better use him as first choice, otherwise its pointless.
Honestly i like the idea of Schiks getting paid-voetbal reps, Jong PSV or not. RKC as a step sounds sensible, especially after that first team debut vs Groningen. If PSV can extend and still loan, thats a win-win.
RKC Waalwijk would be a solid step. If Schiks already debuted against FC Groningen and was Star of the Match, then giving him consistent starts could unlock him fast. 🚀
Makes sense to loan Schiks out. Jong PSV number 1 is one thing, but paid-voetbal experience is waar keepers echt groeien, especially if PSV wants a safe #1 route.
