Premier League | Transfer journalist reports on PSV interest in former “undesired” Ajax player: “I hear those sounds”

1 min read

Almost no PSV fan can imagine a transfer of Joël Veltman to PSV. The former Ajax player is, first and foremost, considered a real Ajax player and, in addition, does not immediately have the level to actively play in the Champions League.

In short, it seems that we are not even allowed to attach value to a rumor, but transfer journalist Mounir Boualin thinks otherwise and does not rule it out: "I hear those sounds gradually", it in fact sounds very implausible about the former player of the Amsterdammers, who is already being called the 'undesired Ajax player' by PSV fans on social media.

Boualin really sees it as different and even sees it happening that PSV will try to bring Veltman back to the Eredivisie. "I don't rule out that PSV ultimately ends up with a free-transfer player who is known in the Eredivisie: Joël Veltman", says Boualin in the Transfermind podcast. "I have that suspicion and I also hear those sounds slowly.”

The journalist then lists a number of reasons why Veltman could be interesting for Peter Bosz’s team, but those reasons can just as easily be dismissed as distractions because the defender does not have the right level. “He is a free agent after this season and knows the Eredivisie. He’s an experienced guy, someone who is normally there straight away, and he can play right back and right center. He is a true Ajax man, but in Eindhoven they have plenty more of those walking around.”

Boualin also expects that the necessary interest will arise for Veltman, who, with his transfer-free status, is of interest to many clubs. I do not rule out that Ajax will do the same. Ajax wanted to bring him to Amsterdam last year, but that did not work out then. Now maybe it will", it says in the podcast.

Transfer-free after this season is the key here. Boualin saying multiple clubs will show up, including Ajax again, makes it plausible, even if the player isn't my dream option for PSV.

The funniest part is that PSV already has "more Ajax around," like that's a free pass. I'll judge it if it happens, but I don't think the squad needs a sentimental signing.

Veltman naar PSV just feels wrong on paper. I get he is experienced and can play RB or RCB, but PSV usually needs more energy and quality to compete.

I'm not buying it that he is "Champions League ready." If PSV wants to progress, they should be looking for sharper defenders than a former "not wanted" type.

The quote about hearing the rumors "slowly" is so vague, but the idea makes sense on paper. Experienced, can play both right back and right center, and he would know the league instantly.

Veltman naar PSV just feels wrong. I get the logic with him being free and Eredivisie proven, but it still sounds like a panic move more than a smart Bosz one.
