Contract until 2031 is ready for Cody Gakpo

1 min read

Former PSV fan favorite Cody Gakpo was last Saturday one of the great standouts for the Netherlands national team in the match against Sweden. Thanks in part to two goals from Gakpo, Oranje ultimately won 5-1.

The left winger had a difficult season at Liverpool FC last season, in which ultimately no trophies were won, and coach Arne Slot was dismissed despite securing Champions League football. Partly due to Slot’s dismissal, Gakpo’s future at Anfield Road is uncertain.

Earlier this month, the outlet Soccernews.nl reported that the former PSV player would be on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar, where Xavi Simons is active. The Spurs managed to stay up at the last minute after a long and difficult fight against relegation.

Transfer journalist Nicola Schira also confirms the interest from the North London club to sign Gakpo. The Spurs’ club management would also have a contract ready until 2031.

In addition, according to Soccernews.nl, Gakpo would be open to a move away from Merseyside. A move to Spurs would create a Dutch enclave with, among others, Xavi Simons, Micky van de Ven and Jan Paul van Hecke.

Tottenham paying up while Liverpool fumbled the coach... I can see it. But come on, if he wants growth, why not a club that actually builds around him instead of chasing stability like last season? Solid for Oranje though, 5-1 and he bossed it.

If Slot got sacked and he still performs, then Spurs should move fast. 🔥

Two goals against Sweden and suddenly the 2031 talk sounds real... If he's really open to leaving Liverpool, Spurs is such a sideways move to me. But tbh with Gakpo still getting that Oranje confidence, maybe he needs a team that backs him week-in-week-out.
