“Truly can't stand Alex Kroes”

1 min read

He had no interest left in it. He’s had enough after a short but turbulent period. In Amsterdam, anything is possible. To be hired as general manager, but only a few weeks later to take on an entirely different role as technical director, and all of it even without experience.

It did not lead to much success in Amsterdam, but its more or less successor, or right-hand man, as you will, made things now and then even wilder. You fill in the blanks yourself, football director Marijn Beuker. Well... they do know how to pick them there in Amsterdam.

Back to Alex Kroes, who is still trying to further expand his share portfolio in Austria. Kroes has called on, or called forth, quite a bit of resistance among his peers at PSV due to his age. That says agent Kees Ploegsma junior, who as a youth player often came up against Kroes. It is then about attitude, which is something that is hardly surprising to say the least.

"The best players I played against at Ajax and Feyenoord were Bobby Petta, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Patrick Kluivert, Clarence Seedorf, Alex Kroes and Martijn Reuser", says agent Kees Ploegsma junior about his time as a footballer in the youth of PSV in the program SEG Stories presents: Villa SEG.

"We used to really dislike Alex. Whenever Alex came onto the field with his chest out, we genuinely thought: There he is again. Really awful. We really couldn’t stand him in Eindhoven", it doesn’t sound stingy.

Erik ten Hag also seems to have something to say about it. "By definition, that’s how it is between Eindhoven and Ajax. Just like Feyenoord does with Ajax. Ajax doesn’t care about any of it, really not", says the technical director of FC Twente, not realizing that the average Ajax fan on social media is solely busy with PSV and Feyenoord supporters.

That quote about wanting the ball moving faster is exactly what PSV need, and it showed in the way the attacks turned over quickly. If they keep that tempo without losing defensive structure, this could be a real upgrade. Vamos PSV! ⚽🚀

"Inside PSV" always makes it sound smoother than it is. Props for the build-up plan, but if the 6 drops too deep then the winger is basically isolated. We should see more rotations between the 8 and the 10, otherwise it gets predictable. 🤬

Gut check: if Luuk in that role keeps getting space behind, its a cheat code. That first step is doing damage, 100% 🔥

Tbh i dont buy the hype around the new pressing shape yet. In the last games PSV still leave a big lane for the counter, and Schouten cant be the only one cleaning up. We need better triggers and more first-touch courage. 🔥

Bro, the quote about keeping the shape in transition is true, but the distances between our lines look off. Against a fast counter, that gap gets punished badly... so im not fully convinced.

"PSV Inside" talking about the link-up with the fullback was spot on, but i still dont trust our final ball. Too many overcooked crosses, no patience in the box 😅⚽

If PSV want to play through the middle more, we need the 8 to show earlier. Right now it feels like they wait too long and then the press jumps them.

If the article is hinting Koopmeiners is getting more freedom behind the striker, that explains why PSV look more dangerous in the half-spaces. Still not sure the midfield balance is fixed though, especially when the fullbacks push high. 👀
