New technical director of Feyenoord points to PSV
1 min readThe dominance of PSV is not only a topic of conversation in the offices of the Johan Cruijff Arena, but also in the offices of the Rotterdam De Kuip, where they are fed up with that leading role of PSV in the Eredivisie. A lot will change at PSV next summer, but the qualities and strength of the squad will, in principle, still be sufficient to once again go for the national title.
In Amsterdam and Rotterdam, a lot will also change. Despite a second place with Feyenoord, the club leadership of the Rotterdammers decided to part ways with coach Robin van Persie. Van Persie managed to qualify for the Champions League after a difficult season, but in doing so he finished a street-length behind the league champion PSV.
PSV became the earliest champions ever on 5 April following a draw by Feyenoord at FC Volendam (0-0), and moreover coach Peter Bosz's team finished with a nineteen-point advantage over the team from Rotterdam-Zuid. For Feyenoord, this was enough reason to say goodbye to RVP.
''We have determined from an extensive analysis that the trend was downward in the past season and that the gap with PSV became larger. Therefore, we have decided not to continue with Robin'', says the new technical director Devy Rigaux during a press conference, as quoted by Voetbalzone.

During that press conference, Feyenoord presented Giovanni van Bronckhorst as the new head coach. Van Bronckhorst was already a coach in De Kuip from 2015 to 2019 and is now, therefore, returning to his old home. Whether Van Bronckhorst will manage to break PSV’s hegemony remains to be seen. Both Jordi Cruijff and the new technical director of the Rotterdammers want PSV’s domination to be broken as soon as possible. Pointing the finger at PSV is therefore well underway, but whether it will amount to anything remains to be seen.
Also in Amsterdam, people do everything they can to close the gap with PSV. Especially with a season with only one direct ticket for the Champions League available on the way. “The difference with PSV is 44 points,” Jordi Cruijff refers to in March of this year to the league table in the Eredivisie and to the league table in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, where Jong Ajax is also a streetlength behind PSV.
