Theo Janssen criticizes PSV and Stewart regarding the transfer of Saibari
1 min readTheo Janssen praises the development of Ismael Saibari, but wonders whether PSV has chosen the right moment to sell the midfielder. The Moroccan international is about to complete his transfer to Bayern Munich, while Janssen believes his market value could have increased further over the coming period.
At the table at De Oranjezomer, the former international said that, in his view, PSV could possibly have gotten more out of the transfer by waiting longer. "Yes, I do think they sold him too early. This World Cup is an ideal platform for Saibari and PSV to drive the price up", said Janssen. According to the analyst, a strong performance on the global stage could have sparked interest from even more top clubs. "Now it’s Bayern that picks him up, but I think that if you had waited, a few bigger clubs would have come along. Especially if you have moments like this in matches."
Standout for Morocco
Saibari has made a big impression in the shirt of Morocco over the past few weeks. The PSV player was involved in both of his country's recent goals and has grown into one of the most important players in the squad.
For Janssen, this development is not a surprise. "He is a defining player for this Morocco. He is a fantastic player. He is technically skilled, strong, and at the highest level he shows that he can keep up."
Chances with Bayern
Despite reports that Bayern Munich does not see Saibari as his first-choice option for his position, Janssen has confidence in his chances at the German top club. However, he does find it striking that Bayern is willing to pay a substantial sum for a player who may not have been at the top of the wish list. "It is kind of bizarre that you pay so much money for a player you consider plan B", he says.
Still, the former midfielder expects Saibari to quickly work his way up to a regular starter in Munich. "But I do think he has the qualities to become a regular starter there quickly. I think that within a month or two he can be in the starting lineup."
According to Janssen, taking a step toward a larger competition is also necessary for the further development of the midfielder. "He needs it too. In the Netherlands, you are not challenged", the analyst concludes.

If PSV start the build-up with more patience in midfield, itll finally stop getting pinned back so easily. But i need to see the fullbacks advance with purpose, not just jogging into space.
If PSV are keeping the ball better in midfield like the article says, then thats huge. But i still want to see more end product from the wide areas, otherwise it turns into safe possession and nothing else 😅.
