PSV’s standout at the World Cup: “How well he plays”

1 min read

With PSV, a fair number of players are represented at the 2026 World Cup. One of those players is Ismael Saibari, who will make the move to FC Bayern München after the World Cup.

In two World Cup duels, Saibari has already been responsible for two goals. Thus, the midfielder provided the opening goal in the match against Brazil (1-1) and against Scotland (0-1), the departing PSV player was responsible for the only goal of the match.

This also hasn't escaped former footballer Ali Boussaboun. In an interview with VoetbalPrimeur, Boussaboun praises Saibari.

''At the very highest level, the World Cup, Saibari shows what qualities he has. What does he do well. What I think is beautiful is that before his shot he even looked to the left to see if a teammate was coming along. Then you’re in form, you know'', says the former footballer.

Also about the development of Saibari, Boussaboun has nothing but praise. ''"His play is so developed. He works hard, is good with the ball, and without the ball he is always on the move. Yes, at this World Cup he is just already showing all his qualities. This kid seems to have no ceiling. I'm on the bench and I just think: wow, what is he doing again so well'', continues the former footballer, among others from Feyenoord.

According to the former pro, the midfielder is performing even better than expected. ''I did expect him to be one of the standouts in this Morocco, but to be honest: not like this. He is simply the man at Morocco right now'', Boussaboun says.

After the World Cup, Saibari will leave for FC Bayern München and Der Rekordmeister, according to the former footballer, will not regret the investment in the PSV player. ''At Bayern, everyone will have seen that Saibari is worth the investment,'' said Boussaboun.

Goal!! if PSV actually use the width like they said. Give me one early switch and then run at their weak side all match, dont wait until the 70th minute. 🚀

Tbh i hope they stick with the same back four, because rotating too much kills chemistry. Also, the finishing better be on point, otherwise itll look like 1-0 buildup and 1-1 regret again. 🤬

The quote about keeping the tempo is fair, but tempo without control is chaos. If Til is on, play him through faster, and stop forcing everything to one side. bruh.

Eens. If the article is right and we go more direct in transition, we win duels and create chances way faster. Still need that killer final ball though, not just effort. 🔥

Warming up for the game and thinking the same thing: the midfield looked too flat in the build-up. Veerman should demand the ball earlier, otherwise we recycle passes until it turns into nothing. 🙄

"PSV Inside" echt lekker, maar im not convinced about the fullback balance. When the winger tucks in, the overlap needs to be immediate or Dumfries-like spaces are just gonna get exploited. 👀

The article was right about the set-up, but i still think Sangare has to do more of the dirty work. When he drops too deep, the game turns into chaos and our build-up gets messy. 🔥

"keep it tight and be brave" is nice, but brave against which press? If we go sideways too much, we get punished. ngl i want a more direct first ball into the 10.

I like the mention of the winger cutting inside, because that forces the opponent's fullback to commit. But if the timing is off, we end up with predictable crosses and no runners in the box. ⚽

tbh i think the starting XI will be too cautious. If they dont trust the fullbacks to step up, the attack will get stuck between the lines. classic PSV problem sometimes.

If PSV actually plays with that high press, Simons has to be the one starting it. Otherwise we get dragged into long balls and itll be a long night, ngl.

If PSV want to keep control, they need that midfield to press higher like the article suggests. Otherwise we just invite pressure and then the back line has to bail us out again. 👀
