Former PSV captain new coach of OH Leuven

1 min read

Between 2005 and 2010, former footballer Timmy Simons was active for PSV. Simons, a 94-time Belgian international, was also appointed captain of PSV in 2007 when Phillip Cocu announced that he would be leaving the club.

After five years at PSV, the Belgian joined 1. FC Nürnberg in 2010 and then returned in 2013 to his childhood club, Club Brugge. In 2018, Simons subsequently ended his career in Brugge and then moved into coaching.

In the 2021/2022 season, the Belgian stood on his own feet for the first time when, halfway through the season, he was appointed head coach after assistant coach was named following Francky Dury being dismissed. At the end of the season, however, Simons was already thanked for his services.

After adventures with FCV Dender EH (2023-2024) and KVC Westerlo (2024-2025), the former PSV player returns as coach of OH Leuven. On Monday, June 29, Simons will lead the club's first training session.

The former midfielder of PSV, who also regularly played as a defender, has signed a contract for two seasons. Managing Director Gyorgy Csepregi is looking forward to working with Simons.

''Timmy Simons’ approach as a coach in Belgium is very recognizable to anyone who knew him as a player: discipline, structure and intensity. His teams are characterized by strong organization, the desire to play dominant football and a clearly defined winning mentality. Timmy brings a wealth of experience, both from his playing career and from his work as a coach. In addition, he is ambitious, driven and knows the Belgian league inside out. We are convinced that he is the right person to help shape our sporting ambitions'', said Csepregi on the OH Leuven club website.
