Advice for Denzel Dumfries: “You just have to stand on his toes.”

1 min read

Orange plays in the night from Thursday to Friday its last group match against Tunisia, which has already been eliminated. In addition, the Netherlands is already virtually assured of a place in the next round.

There the squad coached by Ronald Koeman may face a meeting with Morocco or Brazil. Willem van Hanegem believes that the Netherlands national team can fare better against the Brazilians.

This is what De Kromme says in the VP's podcast Willem&Wessel. ''The chances are greater that they can win that match. With Brazil it's not that special. That was in the past. Back then there were really very good players, but not now. Sure, good players, but not top level'', says Van Hanegem.

Brazil is currently first in the group on goal difference and plays the last group match against Scotland, which still has a chance of finishing in the top two. Morocco is second and plays its final match against already eliminated Haiti.

If Oranje were to face Carlo Ancelotti's team after all, there is a fairly good chance that former PSV defender Denzel Dumfries will be up against Vinicius Junior. Vinicius scored in the match against Morocco (1-1).

Van Hanegem speaks about an annoying guy when Vinicius comes up and gives Dumfries advice in advance for a possible encounter between the two. ''That’s a very unpleasant nasty guy. You just have to get on his toes, now you have to do that'', the football icon concludes.

🔥🔥🔥 where was this intensity against the tougher teams. If you want the midfield to protect the center, Joey Veerman has to be braver with the first pass, not just recycle it. Lets go, we need that consistency week in week out.

"PSV Inside" is spot on about the pressing timing. When the first trigger comes late, we end up chasing shadows, and then Luuk de Jong type hold-up play just becomes a detour instead of a weapon. Get that first wave right and its easily a 3 points game, IMO.

Wat een lineup in theory, but i swear if the fullbacks dont overlap with purpose we will struggle against a compact block. Still, Pepi up top gives us a different threat and thats exciting. 🔥

ngl PSV look way more solid once they start with control in midfield. If those fullbacks keep stepping into space, Gakpo and Tillman can punish the half-turns fast. Still, we cant give away cheap transitions, thats where it gets scary.

If PSV really goes with that faster build-up through the half-spaces, then Luuk de Jong needs to time his runs better. Otherwise we just recycle the ball and the press turns us over.
