London | Premier League club wants to take Cody Gakpo from Liverpool, “wants to leave”
1 min readCody Gakpo has played for Liverpool FC since the winter of the 2022/2023 season. The Reds signed the winger for an amount of at least 42 million euros from PSV and last season Gakpo won the league title with Liverpool.
Now the former PSV crowd favorite is preparing with the Netherlands national team for the World Cup in North America. Gakpo had a difficult season in England in which Arne Slot’s team failed to live up to the high expectations and finished only fifth in the Premier League.
Because of this, the club management of the team from Merseyside decided to put Slot out on the street. It also seems to make Gakpo’s future at Anfield uncertain, and Tottenham Hotspur would now be open to taking over the former PSV player.
With that news, transfer journalist Mounir Boualin of Soccernews.nl brings something to light. ''Our sources from England also indicate that the attacker himself has a desire to leave,'' the journalist writes.
Tottenham Hotspur managed to stay in the Premier League at the last minute this season, but despite this, the club from north London is putting a lot of focus on transfers that need to happen. ''They want to try in the coming period to loosen the Dutchman from Liverpool. With the new project under coach Roberto De Zerbi, they want to persuade him to make the move to London. Behind the scenes, Tottenham is working on a plan to convince the forward and Liverpool over the coming period,'' said Boualin.

Londen, weer een Nederlandse export die verhuist van Liverpool... tbh gun ik het Gakpo, maar PSV fans zien dit natuurlijk met pijn. 42 miljoen voelt nu als een deal die niemand daarna echt had moeten overdoen.

Als Tottenham echt gaat proberen Gakpo los te weken, snap ik het wel. Vierentwintig maanden bij Liverpool en dan zo'n onzekere plek, tbh dat ruikt naar afscheid. Wel jammer, want hij had hier echt een piekmoment.
Liverpool finishing 5th and Slot getting sacked is exactly the kind of chaos that makes players move. Gakpo to Tottenham would be kinda peak spin though.
"vertrekwens" just feels like a headline, but the fact it is coming from England means there is smoke. For PSV it is sad to see him leave again, but i get it if he wants minutes and a clear role.
42 million feels like peanuts now tbh. If Gakpo really has a vertrekwens, i cant blame him after a mid season.
If Tottenham really comes with a plan plus De Zerbi, Gakpo is not safe at Anfield anymore. 42 million already happened, but expectations in England hit different...
If Tottenham really have a plan to "loosen" Gakpo from Liverpool, that is huge. ngl i think 42 million was a bargain then, but with Liverpool signing new attackers, Cody might want guarantees.
