Amsterdam | Update on alleged interest by PSV in Premier League player
1 min readPSV fans were not exactly thrilled to hear the transfer report by journalist Mounir Boualin. For inexplicable reasons, Boualin spoke last week about PSV's interest in the services of Premier League player Veltman.
Joël Veltman would, according to the transfer journalist, have come onto PSV’s radar. From Amsterdam this weekend, a small update regarding Veltman’s situation at Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion. Veltman is certainly open to a return to Ajax. That’s what Kokkie says in the podcast Kale & Kokkie by the two Ajax fans.
Earlier this week, there was talk of a possible transfer of the right-back to PSV, but apparently Veltman’s preference really does lie in Amsterdam, and that seems more than logical to everyone. In addition, Veltman would also never come into view for PSV. Veltman has built up a decent record in the Premier League. The defender has been playing for Brighton & Hove Albion since 2020/21, but he will be a free agent this coming summer. Boualin has made his own story out of it; or at least that seems to be the case.
In response to the statements by Boualin, Maarten Vledder, as Kokkie is called, decided to contact Veltman. “I called Joël, asked him and talked to him. Rumors always go around, but there is absolutely nothing yet,” says the Ajax fan. “There is one club where Joël would most like to go, and that is Ajax,” Vledder says.

Where in Eindhoven people are not immediately waiting for the arrival of Veltman, they see it differently in Amsterdam. “You now need experienced guys. Now we’re getting a hundred thousand people who aren’t the biggest fans of Veltman and Blind, but you need some experienced boys in that squad. I’d really love to see him come back,” Kokkie said about Veltman, who is not in the picture at PSV.

The only thing I keep thinking about is set pieces. If PSV are aiming to win the margins, they have to be ruthless in both boxes, not just in open play.
The midfield decision to go a bit more direct worries me. We win the ball, but sometimes it feels like we give it away too quickly before the press even settles.
Brilliant if they are trusting the young guys with the ball more often. That would explain the sharper build-up, because when players are brave, PSV feel dangerous.
I like how PSV are trying to play faster out of the back, it finally feels like we are the ones controlling the tempo. If those overlaps keep showing up on the wings, the chances will keep coming.
I am not convinced about the balance. Pushing the full-backs higher can work, but if the cover is late, you end up inviting counters. I hope the article is right about the adjustments.
If PSV really wants to play with that more direct tempo, I love it. The midfield looked like it could play forward faster, and that always puts pressure on the opposition.
