Valentijn Driessen shares a remarkable story about a PSV player: “He’s been rejected; it’s difficult to sell him.”
1 min readLast March, Ricardo Pepi appeared to have completed his move from PSV to Fulham FC. PSV would have received a fee of around 36 million euros for this.
The transfer did not take place, however, as it was reported that Pepi did not pass the medical examination according to the reporting from PSV and Fulham. Nevertheless, Valentijn Driessen believes there is more behind it.
The journalist from De Telegraaf thinks, namely, that all parties have not been entirely honest about why the transfer of the American to the team from London did not go through. Driessen says this on Vandaag Inside Oranje.
''Of course he has been rejected'', says the reporter when Johan Derksen wonders why Pepi does not leave for Fulham. ''But they don't tell you that. They all were around; he would only go to England for the medical examination and then he suddenly comes back. It will be even more difficult to sell that kid'', Driessen continues.
According to the reporter, the chance is therefore high that the striker will also continue to play for PSV as usual in 2026/2027. In addition, Driessen wonders whether Pepi will be a regular starter next season.
''The Alassane Pléa is fit again and seems to be making a very strong impression. Soon he may even have to sit on the bench for another year'', the journalist said.

Die zin "Het wordt nog moeilijk om die jongen te verkopen" is gewoon pure realiteit. Als Pléa meteen indruk maakt, dan krijgt Pepi straks weer minder minuten en dan daalt zijn waarde ook nog eens. 💀
tbh als ze allemaal "rond" waren en hij komt ineens terug, dan klopt er iets niet. transferfail door de keuring gebeurt, maar over de details liegen is echt slecht voor je onderhandelpositie. 😂
"Straks mag hij nog een jaar op de bank zitten" bruh, dat is echt zuur als je net in de picture stond bij een Premier League club. Maar eerlijk, als de medische reden zwaar is, dan kan PSV hem moeilijk kwijt raken. 💀
Valentijn Driessen heeft wel een punt, het verhaal wordt steeds rommelig. Als Pepi terugkomt na een medische keuring, zegt dat eigenlijk genoeg over hoe de deal geklapt is. Ik ben benieuwd of hij volgend seizoen nog basisspeler wordt met Pléa fit en ambitieus.
Pléa weer fit en meteen indruk, oké dat kan. Maar dan wordt de vraag terecht: blijft Pepi nog basisspeler, of is hij straks vooral back-up. That's a big shift for a player PSV wanted to cash in on.
If Pepi is truly rejected for health reasons, the 36 million story feels a bit off. Driessen saying "they were all around" but hid the real issue makes me think PSV and Fulham were protecting their own position.
i snap de frustratie wel. Eerst zeggen rond, dan ineens terug door de keuring... Dan is het voor de buitenwereld lastig om te weten wat er echt gebeurd is 🙄
"Hij is afgekeurd, moeilijk om hem te verkopen" klinkt wel echt als zo'n PSV-Fulham soap. Maar ja, als het medische gedoe is, dan wordt Pepi ineens een risico voor zo'n club.
