Defender stays at PSV longer?: "Little interest"
1 min readDespite the fact that Sergiño Dest has repeatedly expressed a desire to leave over the past few months, there is a chance that the American will simply still be active at PSV in the 2026/2027 season. This writes PSV watcher Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad.
Dest has a transfer clause of 23 million euros in his contract and, as a result, the winger defender can be picked up for that amount from PSV. Nevertheless, not many clubs are lining up for the American international yet.
''Around Eindhoven’s club it can be heard that a departure is not a 'must'. Other clubs that want him and know how to persuade him are, upon payment of 23 million euros to PSV, anyway the owners of his transfer rights. This so-called clause amount has not turned out to be so low that clubs are now standing in line in their masses'', so reports Elfrink.
In the summer of 2023, Dest was initially hired by PSV from FC Barcelona. The defender managed to impress so much that PSV decided to sign the American permanently.
In addition, Elfrink writes that there could also be clubs that would like to buy the current PSV player for a lower amount, but that this, in all probability, will not happen. ''The management of PSV is reportedly infatuated with Dest, and a transfer to PSV is not necessary for sporting or business reasons,'' the journalist said.

Quote from Elfrink was clear: other clubs can buy his transfer rights by paying the clause, so the fact that no line forms is telling. If PSV dont need the money and it isnt sportively required, then its "stick around" season for Dest.

🔥23 miljoen en geen rij... dan wordt het automatisch een "blijft nog wel even"-verhaal. Dest has contract, PSV has leverage.
Dest is goated in fases, maar ik vraag me wel af of PSV hem echt elke week blijft vertrouwen als de concurrentie beter wordt. 23m betalen klinkt voor anderen niet als "must-have".
Clubs will wait him out, thats how these deals go. PSV leadership wanting to keep him sounds good, but it also means Dest has to keep performing every week or the clause turns into a trap 💀
Dont see anyone paying 23m unless theyre desperate or have a weird plan. If PSV are "gek met Dest", then 2026/2027 is likely him staying, at least until interest cools or he drops form.
Tbh i verwacht dat PSV hem gewoon houdt als er geen gek bod komt. Het klinkt alsof ze hem zelfs sportief én commercieel laten renderen, niet om een transfer af te maken.
"Weinig interesse" klopt echt. Met zo'n clausule moet je als club al overtuigd zijn, anders is het gewoon geen slimme deal.
Dest still has quality, but i worry about whether PSV can keep getting the same impact without a proper step forward. If nobody pays 23m, it becomes more like squad role player than main gear.
If PSV really is happy with Dest, then 23m is just too much for most clubs. It makes sense that "vertrek geen must" is the vibe.
"Weinig interesse" zegt genoeg... I think we can survive another season with him, especially if the backup at LB/RB isnt ready. tbh 23 mil is a lot for a winger-back.
If the 23m clause is real, it honestly makes no sense for clubs to overpay now. Dest isnt a must-sell at all, and PSV clearly wants to keep him as long as the market stays quiet.
