This back number is worn by Guus Til during the 2026 World Cup

The preparations for the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States are now well underway and all 48 participating countries have also announced their squads for the global finals tournament. Last Wednesday, national team coach Ronald Koeman announced his World Cup squad for the Netherlands and, as everyone knows, the coach has left a spot for Guus Til.

Ti is, partly due to the serious cruciate ligament injury of captain Jerdy Schouten, the only PSV player who has been called up by the national team coach. Joey Veerman, despite a strong season, has not been in the picture at any point for Koeman and Veerman has also indicated that he doesn’t need to be called by the coach anymore.

In addition to the full selection, Oranje has also revealed the back numbers of all 26 players. Players such as captain Virgil van Dijk (back number 4), Memphis Depay (back number 10), Frenkie de Jong (back number 21), and Denzel Dumfries (back number 22) have been assigned their fixed back number.

In addition, it is striking that Marten de Roon has been assigned the number 3 shirt as a controlling midfielder, and defender Jean-Paul van Hecke has been assigned the number 6. Guus Til has played for PSV since his arrival in 2022 wearing shirt number 20, but this number has been assigned in Oranje to midfielder Teun Koopmeiners. Til has been assigned shirt number 16 by national team coach Ronald Koeman.
