The return of Van Bommel gives PSV an even stronger stature, but counter-sound about the defense can still be heard.

It has already been 10 months since he suffered a serious injury, but Ruben van Bommel is back. The son of Mark van Bommel has meanwhile made his return, and that is, in short, doing PSV a lot of good. When Ruben van Bommel returned, PSV was able to convince themselves from time to time, as they won handsomely from Union Sint-Gillis: 7-3.

PSV and the Belgian club Union Sint-Gillis turned it into a double friendly match, of two times 75 minutes. Ruben van Bommel made his return after 10 months. As mentioned, Ruben van Bommel gave PSV an even stronger look because, provided he is fully fit, Van Bommel is considered a real reinforcement. In a sense, Van Bommel is like a new player, since he hardly played last season.

After a good start, PSV took the lead after half an hour. From a corner, Ryan Flamingo headed in for the opening goal. Soon the score was doubled by Dennis Man, who, after a good combination with Sven Mijnans, found the net with a long-range shot.

Yet during and after the match, just like other summer transfer periods, attention was again focused heavily on the back line. 'There still needs to be quite a lot done in the transfer market for PSV,' reported the Eindhoven Dagblad last week, although it also pointed not only to the defense. According to the regional paper, PSV still needs to build the squad. Strengthening is especially needed in defense. 

'Last year, the training camp was the period in which PSV firmly built the squad and a number of incoming and outgoing transfers took shape. The club now still wants to say goodbye to Joël Drommel and Isaac Babadi. A fair amount still needs to be done on the incoming side, and above all new defenders are needed. A left back and a central defender are certainly still expected in this transfer window', writes Eindhovens Dagblad.

According to the newspaper, 'two or even three forces will have to be recruited', while it remains to be seen whether no one leaves. Mauro Junior and Sergiño Dest, of course, but also Joey Veerman or perhaps Guus Til, could just as easily leave in the coming weeks.
