Kenneth Perez sparks a lot of debate after his statement about Ajax’s summer transfer plans: ‘Those players really are not going to PSV.’

The transfer summer window of PSV, Feyenoord and Ajax is the subject of conversation now that the millions of euros are flying out the door. In Amsterdam, it seems, everything is being done to break PSV's hegemony, because the small Amsterdam club is throwing around millions after receiving money from Newcastle.

According to Valentijn Driessen, Ajax even brings future funds forward in the chase for PSV. Well, taking risks in Amsterdam in recent years more or less equaled suffering losses, but we’ll see what it brings. Up to now, PSV has only bought Sven Mijnans, but behind the scenes, Stewart of course hasn’t been idle.

In turn, Kenneth Perez is impressed by Ajax’s activities on the transfer market. The ESPN analyst does not think that Marc-André ter Stegen and Marcos Leonardo would be feasible for rivals PSV and Feyenoord. Karim El Ahmadi also is positive about the Brazilian striker.

El Ahmadi played between 2018 and 2022 for Al Ittihad and knows the Saudi league well. Leonardo, too, he saw in action a number of times. "A good player, you know", he says on the World Cup Talk. "He has a lot of depth in his game. He isn’t really a polished player who is very good with the ball. But he is constantly on the move and very difficult to defend against. He also has a nose for goal. He is really a good player, one that Ajax can make good use of."

"Leonardo made a very good impression on me at Al Hilal. He was really noticeable and decisive in matches. There were also really big stars there with Karim Benzema and all those guys. So he really did make a good impression. I think he’s a real asset."

It is certainly striking that Ajax can pay as much as nineteen million euros for the striker. "Champion!", Perez jokes. "But I said the same thing last year as well: it remains an attractive club and it could just be that they will be in the mix again. Look, the players who go to Ajax now really don’t go to PSV or Feyenoord. Ajax just has something", he says, referring alongside Leonardo to Caio Henrique and Marc-André ter Stegen. "Ter Stegen isn’t coming for the Dutch competition; he’s coming because it’s Ajax. And Leonardo is earning a fortune at Al Hilal..."

El Ahmadi leans into that. "Henrique also earned a decent salary at AS Monaco. I don’t think you’re going to come for any less than that. Ounahi is also a player who earns a bit. In terms of salaries, they really can earn well at Ajax."

Perez wonders whether Ajax is taking the gamble again to pay such salaries while participating in the Conference League. "Then you have to become champions and have to reach the Champions League. It is nice that they are trying something and that we have some excitement in the league. Not that PSV ends up first again with a smile", said Kenneth Perez, who in particular has to process a lot of criticism on social media following his remarks about Ajax’s transfer window in relation to PSV’s.

Did anyone else catch the quote about 'control first'? lol we need control AND goals. Otherwise this turns into possession with no bite, and thats how you drop points 👀

Im glad the article mentions the build-up tempo, because thats exactly what has been missing in some games. With Zahavi linking earlier, PSV can turn possession into chances much quicker, not just keep the ball.

We needed a winger to pin the left back more. If that cutback doesnt happen, Bruma and the others are basically jogging behind the ball 💀

When Pepi started that pressing trap, i was like ok this is the plan. But once Ajax-style counters came, PSV looked stretched at fullback, ngl. Still, good intensity though 🔥

lol im not convinced by the wing choices. If the fullback tucks in every time, we lose width and the counters get way too predictable. De Jong has to cover those half-spaces or its gonna be pain again 😅

That midfield setup felt a bit too safe for me, i wanted more pressure after PSV won the ball in their half. Sangare especially looked like he could carry the ball through the lines but didnt always commit.

If PSV are really trying to play through the middle with that tempo, i hope it doesnt get clogged against the press. 👀 Tilting the buildup to one side would help Sangare/Veerman get on the ball sooner, imo.
