Matej Kovar with Czechia to the World Cup

1 min read

Matej Kovar may be getting his country, the Czech Republic, ready for the first World Cup in twenty years this coming summer. During the World Cup, Kovar will normally be the Czech Republic’s first-choice goalkeeper.

In the qualification, the PSV goalkeeper played an important role both in the final and in the semi-final during the penalty shootout. In the semi-final against Ireland, Kovar saved two penalties and, thanks in part to a saved penalty in the final against Denmark, the Czechs were able to qualify for the global final tournament for the first time since 2006.

Former PSV player Michal Sadilek will also represent the Czech Republic and be in action at next summer’s World Cup. During the World Cup, the Czechs will play in Group A against co-host Mexico, South Africa, and South Korea.

"Inside PSV" better show more about the numbers, because right now it feels like the same 2-3 players carry everything. 💀 We need more from the squad rotation, otherwise it will be a long season in Europe too.

The article said "tempo without the ball" was the key, and yeah that is exactly what PSV must repeat. When the first pass is early and we win the second ball, it becomes a banger for us. 👏⚽

No way we can rely on Veerman to play hero-ball every game. idk if the article mentioned it, but when he drifts inside, our fullback space disappears and the wingers get isolated. Thats when teams punish us on the counter, fr.

If PSV are going with that high press again, dont be shocked if it looks great for 20 minutes and then breaks down when the build-up gets clean. 👀 Simone/Schouten types need to win those second balls or it turns into chaos in midfield.

Tbh I dont agree with the wing-backs being used so high. It leaves too much space behind them, and you can already see opponents turning quickly. We need more balance, especially against teams with pace in transition 💀

If PSV really want to control games, they need Xavi Simons in that half-space more often. Right now it feels like we're building attacks too slow and then scrambling. Still, lets see if the pressing triggers are sharper next match 🔥
