Title holder warns: “It has to be even better this season if we’re going to win the title again”
1 min readLast season, PSV became the earliest-ever national champion after number 2 Feyenoord, on 5 April, could not do better than a 0-0 draw away to FC Volendam. As a result, Peter Bosz’s team became champions for the third time in a row and, in 2026/2027, PSV hopes to win the fourth consecutive league title.
Then PSV will have to do better next season, according to Mauro Junior. The newly appointed captain says this in conversation with Eindhovens Dagblad.
''Every training I give everything and I want us to reach a higher level. It has to be really. It has to be even better to win the title again this season. We can't become arrogant, because it’s always about showing mentality'', says Mauro.
According to the versatile footballer, the main thing is that Bosz's squad stays sharp and doesn't loosen the reins. ''Maybe some will go and relax after three titles, but that's not how you keep winning trophies,'' says the midfielder, who can also play as a defender, firmly.

A number of years ago, defender and fellow countryman of Mauro André Ramalho was one of the reserve captains and the current PSV player has learned a lot from his compatriot. ''André Ramalho was sometimes it and I learned a lot from him. He used to be in the club's leadership group and was a great example. That's what I want to be for others in my turn now'', said Mauro.

"Misschien gaan sommigen na drie titels chillen" is a bit spicy lol. Ramalho as an example is solid, maar nu moet Mauro zelf laten zien dat he can lead when the pressure hits, not just in quotes 👀
Mauro saying we cant get arrogant is fair, but i hope he also calls out the details. Bosz needs the same sharpness in matches like that Volendam 0-0, where you win the league but still have to show control.
Love the mindset talk. "Het moet nóg beter" is precies wat je nodig hebt als je weer de titel wil pakken, dont coast after 3 in a row 🔥🐐
