1 min readNext Sunday, with PSV - FC Twente, marks yet again the final league match on the calendar for both teams. While Peter Bosz's side has held the national title for some time, the Tukkers are still playing for a place in the Champions League qualifying round.
The historical record is clearly in PSV’s favor. In the 58 league matches played so far in Eindhoven, PSV has won no fewer than 36 times and drawn 18 times.
The team from Enschede managed to take the full spoils back from the Philips Stadium only four times. The last time this happened was on 4 March 2012, when the Tukkers were able to win in Eindhoven 2-6, already leading 0-4 at halftime.
At the beginning of the 21st century, FC Twente was an opponent against whom PSV often dropped points. From 2007/2008 to 2011/2012, they did not win at home against the team from Enschede (three draws and two defeats).
In the 2007/2008 season, PSV - FC Twente was the championship match in the 33rd round on 13 April, but due to a 1-1 draw and a victory by Ajax at FC Groningen (1-2), the celebrations had to be postponed by a week. Eventually, PSV became champions a week later anyway after a 0-1 victory in Arnhem against Vitesse.
In the 1979/1980 season, PSV recorded the biggest home win over the Tukkers (7-1) and last season the team coached by Peter Bosz steamrolled the lineup of then-coach Joseph Oosting despite trailing 0-1, winning 6-1. PSV’s last dropped point at home against FC Twente dates back to 26 January 2020 (1-1).
After the match, a grim atmosphere emerged in front of the Philips Stadium when some fervent PSV supporters wanted to storm the main entrance of the stadium and demanded the departure of then-technical manager John de Jong. In the end, the riot police (ME) had to step in to prevent the fans from entering the main entrance.

Ik hoop dat Bosz gewoon doorpakt, want dat ze ooit 0-4 rust voorsprong hadden is nice geschiedenis maar nu is het PSV-periode. Wel die laatste keer puntverlies (1-1 in 2020) blijft hangen... niet te relaxed starten, aub.
"Over het algemeen weinig problemen" vind ik wat kort door de bocht. Ja, PSV heeft de cijfers mee, maar PSV moet vooral niet te relaxed starten, want historisch is juist dat soort openingsmoment vroeger vaak kantelend geweest.
Eens, het feit dat PSV sinds 26 januari 2020 niet meer gelijks speelde tegen Twente thuis zegt genoeg. Tbh ik verwacht vooral controle op het middenveld, zodat Twente niet kan omschakelen na balverlies.
Die 2-6 van 2012 blijft echt een outlier. Toch snap ik de zorg niet helemaal, PSV heeft thuis tegen Twente lang al niet meer structureel gemorst, laatste echte puntverlies was 1-1 in 2020. 💯

Ik ben vooral benieuwd hoe PSV dit gaat managen met Twente nog voor CL-voorronde. Als we niet snel scoren, dan kan zo'n Europese motivatie lastig worden, maar die cijfers lijken ons wel veilig. 👀
Die balans zegt echt genoeg, 36 wins en 18 draws, zo kán Twente bijna niet "even storen" in Eindhoven. Maar als ze Europese ticket nog willen, dan ga je sowieso wel een felle strijd zien.
Twente speelt nog voor CL-voorronde, dus onderschatting mogen we niet doen. Wel lekker dat PSV in Eindhoven 36x wint en slechts 4x met 3 punten wegging, dat zegt genoeg.
Tbh die balans zegt bijna alles. Twente heeft het in Eindhoven gewoon niet echt... 36 wins vs 18 draws is wild, doe mij maar weer een comfortabele PSV. 😅
Die 2-6 van 2012 is echt de herinnering die je niet wil laten terugkomen. i hoop dat Bosz dit blok leert van dat soort wedstrijden en vroeg druk zet.
36 wins in Eindhoven ... dat is gewoon een statement. Twente komt er historisch moeilijk doorheen, maar als ze echt nog voor die CL-plek vechten dan wordt het zondag toch geen walkover, right? 🔥
Lowkey is het echt "geen problemen" als PSV zo'n overwicht heeft tegen Twente. Maar die laatste chaos rond John de Jong laat zien dat spanning ineens kan omslaan als het niet snel lekker loopt.
