FC Groningen standout tipped for PSV

1 min read

The chance is high that Joey Veerman at the end of this season after more than four and a half years will leave PSV. The midfielder is having an excellent season and seems to have set his sights on a transfer.

If it were up to former PSV player René van der Gijp, Veerman’s replacement would be found by running around at FC Groningen. According to Van der Gijp, PSV would do well to sign Younes Taha.

Taha is being loaned by the Groningen side this season from FC Twente and is of great value to the team coached by Dick Lukkien. In the most recent matchday, Taha provided two assists in the home win against NEC (2-1).

''Do you know who I also think is a good footballer, Wim, Taha from FC Groningen'', tells the Dordrecht analyst in the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp. Wim Kieft agrees with his former teammate with Oranje.

According to Gijp, the midfielder has just as many qualities as Veerman. “Good player, good left foot. Really a great left foot. If you now have to get a replacement for Joey Veerman, that guy has just as good a shot, you know,” Van der Gijp said.

Van der Gijp hyping Groningen players again, I love it and I hate it. Still, comparing his qualities to Veerman makes sense, especially if PSV can get the deal done before the summer gets messy.

Taha having that 'great left foot' is interesting, but I'm still not convinced he's the same level as Veerman in the big moments. Joey controls the tempo so well, so PSV will need more than just a good left boot.

It would be a smart move if PSV can get him without overpaying. Dick Lukkien clearly knows how to use Taha, and two assists in one match is not just a fluke.

If Veerman really is leaving, Taha sounds like a very smart profile. Two assists against NEC is exactly the kind of output you want from a midfielder who can create and chip in.

That quote about "a geweldig linkerbeen" is classic Van der Gijp. Still, a good replacement with a similar level of quality could be huge if Joey goes. Curious what the plan is for the rest of midfield too.

I like the idea, but let's not pretend Taha is automatically the same as Veerman. Different roles, different league speed, and PSV still needs control in the center, not only a great left boot.

I get the link, but comparing Taha straight up to Veerman feels a bit too convenient. Veerman controls games in a very PSV way, can Taha do that in Eindhoven pressure?

If Veerman leaves, PSV need someone who can actually pick the ball up and play with pace. Taha having two assists vs NEC sounds promising, and that left foot talk is exactly what we miss sometimes.

If Veerman is really leaving, Taha sounds like a smart fit. Two assists vs NEC is not a random stat, and that left foot praise from Van der Gijp makes me interested.
