ESPN analyst not in agreement with Saibari’s election: “I really enjoyed that”
1 min readIsmael Saibari was chosen last Monday at the Eredivisie Gala as Player of the Year 2025/2026. The PSV midfielder beat, among others, teammate Joey Veerman and Ajax player Mika Godts.
Saibari had a strong season with nineteen goals and nine assists in 37 official matches, including a hat-trick at De Kuip against Feyenoord (2-3). Even in the Champions League matches, Saibari was responsible for goals against, among others, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Napoli and FC Bayern München.
Despite Saibari's strong season at PSV, ESPN analyst Kenneth Perez believes that Saibari's election is not entirely justified. ''I would have chosen Chery, I think. When I'm watching, I do kind of sit back on the couch, but he is one of the players for whom I think: wow'', the analyst says in the ESPN program Voetbalpraat.
After that, Perez goes into more detail about why he likes NEC's striker so much. ''That touch, whether with the left or with the right, and the goals he has scored. Also how he carried that team at the age of 37. I really enjoyed that,'' continues the Dane.
Despite this, the former footballer has come to terms with the fact that Saibari has won the title. ''I understand that, with PSV's championship, Saibari is a much more interesting option. But I really thought Chery was very good this season,'' concludes Perez.

"Ik had voor Chery gekozen" begrijp ik, maar ik vind het wel een beetje oneerlijke vergelijking. Saibari had ook die hattrick in De Kuip tegen Feyenoord, 2-3, dat moment telt gewoon. En Veerman en Godts pakt hij ook nog weg in die verkiezing.
FREDDY hierboven op de bank, lol. Perez zegt "Daar heb ik van genoten", maar als PSV hem echt in de Champions League elke keer laat scoren, dan is die keuze toch gewoon peak. Chery was top, sure, maar Saibari had de hele carry-rol.
Wel apart dat Perez eerst twijfelt en dan alsnog aangeeft dat hij "wauw" krijgt van Chery. Toch heeft Saibari de hele campagne gedragen, ook in de Champions League, en dat zal uiteindelijk de doorslag geven.
Saibari wint en Perez zegt dat hij Chery had gekozen. Tbh snap ik wel zijn punt, maar die Kuip-hattrick en die 19 goals + 9 assists is toch gewoon peak.
Kenneth Perez zegt: hij zit te kijken en hangt op de bank, lol. Misschien, maar cijfers en momenten spreken voor Saibari. Die assists erbij maken hem voor mij sowieso onmisbaar.
Ik ben het deels eens, Chery was mid-season echt goated. Maar Saibari erbij pakken met die hattrick in De Kuip tegen Feyenoord, dat vergeet je niet. 2-3 en beslissend, daar moet je voor stemmen.
Saibari 19 goals en 9 assists, plus die hattrick in de Kuip tegen Feyenoord, dan kan ik Perez zijn keuze snapppen maar echt... Saibari is wel peak. 🔥
"Daar heb ik van genoten" zegt Perez en ik snap m... maar Chery heeft niet dezelfde impact in Europa als Saibari, imo. PSV won ook echt en dan wil je iemand die kan afmaken én linken.
Saibari 19 goals en 9 assists, en dan toch Chery preferen... Perez zit echt met sentiment, maar ik snap wel waarom. Tbh die linkse of rechtse aanname waar hij over praat, dat soort details wint matches.
Tbh snap ik wel dat Perez Chery noemt, die dingen met links/rechts en die aanname waren echt banger. Maar Saibari met 19 goals en 9 assists in 37, plus goals tegen Bayern/ Napoli, dat is toch wel peak.
