Chris Woerts points to Wim Jonk regarding PSV player

Despite a strong season at PSV and being named Player of the Year by the magazine Voetbal International, Joey Veerman is not included in the Netherlands national team squad for the World Cup in North America. Even during the press conference in March ahead of the international friendlies against Norway and Ecuador, national coach Ronald Koeman made it known that Veerman would not be eligible for a place in the World Cup squad.

After the end of the last league match PSV - FC Twente (5-1) on 17 May of last month, the PSV player openly told ESPN’s camera that the national team coach no longer needs to call him. Veerman said this after it became known that the midfielder was not included in the preliminary squad for the World Cup.

Sports marketer Chris Woerts, regularly seen at the bar as a guest on Vandaag Inside, has the suspicion that a lot more is going on than just footballing choices made by Koeman. In that context, Woerts points to his assistant coach, Wim Jonk.

According to the sports marketer, Jonk doesn’t feel much for the PSV player, which is why Veerman, therefore, hasn’t been selected. ''"Joey Veerman is the most underrated player in the Netherlands. I think it also has to do with assistant coach Wim Jonk. He can’t stand Veerman'', says Woerts in the segment Cocktailtje met... on Vandaag Inside.

According to the national team coach, Veerman also has a different character, and Woerts thinks that Jonk Koeman has dragged that into it. ''He told Ronald Koeman: we shouldn't have stubborn characters in the team. We need all of us to be on the same page with each other. Everyone has to be happy with each other. Then you shouldn't have troublesome guys. No, this squad is unbalanced. They are all nice guys and they are all kind to each other. But nobody tells the truth,'' as the sports marketer said.

At the 2024 European Championship, Veerman was still part of the Oranje squad that made it to the semifinals and ultimately lost 1-2 to England. After that, the PSV player did not come on for the Netherlands any more, and under Koeman, Veerman also will no longer be considered for a place in the Oranje squad.
