Fans voice criticism of Koeman and also point to former PSV player: ‘Ridiculous’
1 min readNational coach Ronald Koeman has by now announced his Netherlands squad for the 2026 World Cup and of course some of the coach’s choices are under discussion. Guus Til goes to the World Cup as the only PSV player and there are also a number of other former PSV players selected, including Memphis Depay.
Koeman’s decision to take Depay with him to the World Cup does not sit well with everyone. The former PSV player has been struggling a lot with his fitness this season and only got back into action for his club Corinthians in Brazil last weekend.
A number of fans on the social media platform X are therefore also not pleased about the fact that the national team coach has made room for the former PSV striker. A selection of the reactions:

Gewoon handig lijkt me.

I get the hype, but the build-up is still a bit chaotic. Against stronger teams, that loose first touch will get punished fast, idk how we fix it without sacrificing speed 💀
"PSV Inside" really shows why our width matters. The moment we stretch the fullbacks, it creates those easy cutbacks for the attackers, love it 🔥⚽
If PSV keep playing like this in the middle, the press will win them games. tbh though, we need more calm from the back when the counter comes.
That midfield setup is not it tbh. Too many sideways passes, not enough direct runs to split lines. PSV will need a faster switch to hurt them. 💀
If PSV start playing out from the back the way they did in that clip, i swear teams will just press and win it in midfield. Sangare needs to be braver with his passing or it turns into panic every 2 minutes. 👀
"PSV Inside" always mentions the link-up on the right, but tbh the timing between the winger and the fullback is still mid sometimes. When it clicks though, it looks like pure 🔥 and the press gets broken instantly. Need consistency, not just moments.
If PSV really want to play faster through the half-spaces, Veerman needs to carry the ball earlier. Too many times lately we slow down and let the opponent reset, then it becomes chaos in the box. Hopefully PSV adjust that in the next match.
