First talks between the KNVB and the new national team coach
1 min readAfter a disappointing World Cup in North America, the KNVB has to look for a new national team coach since Ronald Koeman announced last week that he will be stepping down. As a result, among football fans and analysts alike, the name of, among others, Peter Bosz was also mentioned as a successor to Koeman.
Bosz extended in February, however, his contract with PSV and therefore it also seems unlikely that the coach will become the new national team coach. Now Sky Sports Deutschland reports that the KNVB is already in talks with Arne Slot.
Slot was sacked on 30 May as coach of Liverpool FC and is therefore one of the candidates who is available. In addition to Slot, the KNVB also has other names still on the list.
Still, Slot seems to be on the shortlist if we are to believe the German media. Moreover, the first talks have already taken place.

Besides Slot, names such as Erik ten Hag, Pep Guardiola and Michael Reiziger are also mentioned. Last week, Voetbal International still reported that Reiziger was a strong candidate to succeed Koeman.
🚨🆕 Understand Arne Slot is one of the candidates to become the new Netherlands head coach following Ronald Koeman’s resignation.

I still dont get why people throw Guardiola and Ten Hag into the mix like thats realistic. Slot being in first talks already feels like the KNVB wants a quick process, not another "big name" gamble.
"the first conversations have already taken place" ... that line screams urgency. If the KNVB waits too long, they lose their momentum and end up with a compromise choice. Slot sounds like the high ceiling option.
Tbh, Bosz was the name i expected after that PSV run, but contract extension makes it logisch. Still, i think Slot suits the NT profile better if they want a modern possession structure.
ten Hag and Guardiola being mentioned feels like FIFA Career Mode lol. Reiziger as a big candidate also makes sense, because he understands Dutch football from the inside. Still, i think Slot is the most logical appointment.
Bosz signing that extension in February pretty much kills the Bosz-to-Oranje storyline. Slot on the other hand is free, and if Sky Germany says the first talks already happened, then it is not just smoke.
If Slot talks with the KNVB, that is a real twist. On the PSV side i get the fear, because he would be perfect for the Oranje project. But man, Peter Bosz still feels locked in due to that contract extension.
If Slot comes, that would be huge for NL football. But also, losing him to the KNVB means PSV basically gets another summer rebuild... and i hate that.
