PSV defender in the sights of FC Porto thanks to a release clause

1 min read

Mauro Junior would be in the spotlight of FC Porto. With this news, the Voetbal International outlet is coming forward.

VI knows, in fact, that the Brazilian, who this season was an important link both in midfield and at left-back, has a departure clause in his contract. ''He stands at a crossroads'', writes the football magazine.

Mauro is still under contract with PSV until mid-2029 and the club would like to keep the versatile footballer, who made his debut with the first team in 2017, on board for longer. This would allow PSV to work through the clause in his contract, as VI knows.

The paper writes that PSV wants to prevent the midfielder, who can also play as a defender, from leaving the door for a low fee. ''A release clause, contractually laid down. And just after such a top season by Mauro, PSV is stuck with that. The Eindhoven club would like to keep Mauro, but also wants to ensure that the versatile left-footed player does not leave the club for a relatively low amount. The board is therefore holding talks with contract-Mauro in the hope of getting the clause out of the contract,'' says the football paper.

Besides FC Porto, the English club Leeds United is also being linked with Mauro. Despite this, the Brazilian would reportedly be demanding more of a transfer to Southern Europe.

With a transfer to a European top competition, Mauro hopes to force a ,possible place in Brazil's squad. ''And even he seems to have ears for such a move—actually for the first time since he joined the club,'' VI concludes.

Clubs love to call him versatile when it benefits them. PSV needs to turn this into a renewal, extend to 2029 with a bigger clause, and keep the squad depth for the next run. 💯

If he really is open to a move to get a shot at the Brazil squad, i can see why. Still, Mauro is a system player for us, and replacing his versatility wont be easy 🔥

Mauro being useful both in midfield and at left-back is exactly why Porto will sniff around. If PSV ends up stuck with a clause after his best season, that feels like bad planning by management tbh. Leeds too is interesting, but his preference for Italy/Spain/Portugal might be the real danger.

"He is at a crossroads" means Mendes/agent talk is already happening. For Mauro to push for Brazil squad chances, moving to Porto makes sense, but i still think PSV can hold him if they structure the deal right and communicate.

The part that worries me is the clause being "contractually laid down". If PSV tries to negotiate after a breakout year, it should be with real leverage and clear numbers, otherwise Porto will sit back and wait.

Crossroads quote hits hard. If he stays, he must be guaranteed a role, not only emergency left-back duties, because his best moments were midfield 🔥⚽

"He is at a crossroads"... bruh, he is at PSV, playing and developing. If he wants southern Europe, ok, but i want to hear the price first and i want it high.

Leeds too, lol... but "prefer a move to southern Europe" sounds like pure Portuguese/Spanish vibes. I just hope PSV dont get played into accepting a bargain because they waited too long.

Release clause after a big season is peak business... for whoever buys. I just hope PSV doesnt get baited into lowering it to "save face".

PSV really need to manage this release clause thing, cant let him go "for a low fee" after a top season. But also, if he wants southern Europe, talks better be quick or it turns into a saga.

"He is at a crossroads" lol that is media talk for "Porto are ready to bid". If Mauro truly wants southern Europe, PSV better act now and renegotiate or buy back the leverage. We cannot lose a left-back-midfield link for peanuts.

The article makes it sound like PSV are "holding talks" to remove the clause. That is smart if they can extend him quickly, otherwise Porto and Leeds will keep circling.

Release clause or not, Porto always finds a way to make moves sound "cheap". Mauro had a proper top season, we should not be letting him go for low money just because it's written down in ink. 👀⚽

If Porto are sniffing around Mauro Junior, i get it. Versatile in midfield and at left-back is exactly what top squads need.

M

mauro junior being both a midfield link and left-back is exactly why i fear this. if we sell him for a low fee after a top season, thats straight up pain lol 😅⚽

Crossroads my ass, if Porto come with real money let them talk. But if it is some "release clause and cheap" scenario, PSV should tell them no and keep him.
