No clarity yet about the future: “I still need a bit more time for that.”
1 min readDick Advocaat was the oldest national team coach at the World Cup. Advocaat was eliminated as coach of Curaçao in the group stage, but nonetheless has a hero status on the island.
The 78-year-old former PSV coach has also still not made a decision about his future. Earlier, several squad players from The Blue Wave indicated they would like to continue with Advocaat.
The born Hague native has, in conversation with Curacao.nu, said that a longer commitment as head coach of Curaçao is still a serious option. ''I’m not saying no in advance. I still need a bit more time for that,'' the coach says to the outlet.
Despite the early exit, De Kleine Generaal looks back positively on the World Cup in North America. ''I thought it was a great experience, especially with this group and also in the way we did it. In the first match after losing to Germany, we did pretty well. We kept standing firm against Ecuador and Ivory Coast. You shouldn’t underestimate the caliber of the countries we played against,'' Advocaat says.
The coach also emphasizes that only a longer term as Curaçao national team coach is an option, as opposed to a new job in the Netherlands. ''I think someone else has done that. In any case, I don't know anything about it. If anything happens, it will happen in Curaçao and otherwise not,'' the coach makes it clear.
Despite his age of 78, Advocaat does not see it as a hindrance to continue as a coach. ''I feel physically very well, so that's not the problem at all'', said the former PSV coach.

Advocaat zegt dat Nederland niet aan de orde is, maar je hoort natuurlijk altijd geruchten rond PSV. Op het WK hadden ze momenten tegen Duitsland, en toch is het poule-gedoe gebeurd. Als hij daar held blijft in Curaçao, dan moet PSV maar niet te lang wachten op eventuele indirecte verhalen. 👀
Tbh vind ik zijn redenatie wel sterk: alleen doorpakken in Curaçao, geen nieuwe klus in NL. "Ik voel me lichamelijk heel goed" dus hij is niet klaar, maar ik vraag me af of spelers dat geduld ook zo lang willen. 🔥
Tbh Advocaat die zegt dat een nieuwe klus in Nederland niet aan de orde is, dat is dus echt Curaçao-only voor nu. Interessant dat hij het fysiek "heel goed" voelt, want leeftijd 78 hoor je toch nog vaak als rem. Voor PSV fans is het wel weird dat we zo veel namen blijven hangen aan dat eiland.
"Daar heb ik toch nog wat meer tijd voor nodig" klinkt mooi, maar ik vraag me af wat dit betekent voor spelers die door willen. Als er nog tijd nodig is, prima, maar wel duidelijkheid geven, anders krijg je weer onzekerheid. WK eruit in de poulefase is niet ideaal, al klinkt het verhaal wel positief.
ngl ik snap wel dat Advocaat zegt dat hij nog "meer tijd" nodig heeft. Als je fysiek ok bent en er is nog een project, waarom zou je nu al gas terugnemen? Toch hoop ik wel dat PSV in dat denken niet opnieuw ten prooi valt aan gedoe rond contracten.
