Mijnans points to a former teammate at AZ: "He received me really well."

A year after AZ's transfer of Sven Mijnans to PSV was still a possibility, Mijnans has been officially a PSV player since last week. PSV has put thirteen million euros on the table for the midfielder and made his first unofficial minutes in the PSV kit last weekend.

Last season, as substitute captain, Mijnans managed to make a strong impression on AZ, which won the KNVB Cup by beating NEC 5-1 in the final. The midfielder stood out in that match for Alkmaar Zaanstreek.

For the camera of ESPN, the newly signed PSV player says that he is happy to have experienced a successful season in Alkmaar. ''It has been a successful year, for myself and for AZ. You only don’t know what would have happened if I had gone to PSV last year already. I think I was already ready for a step up last year, but I put a line through that and I’m glad that I was able to make such a year with AZ,'' says Mijnans.

PSV recently sold Ismael Saibari to FC Bayern München, but the midfielder doesn't want to put too much emphasis on it. "Last year it was Tillman, so in that respect I haven't received the two worst players. It's a great challenge. I'm also looking at the step I'm about to take and I think this is a step in the right direction," continues PSV's first summer signing.

At PSV, Mijnans is reunited with Ruben van Bommel. Van Bommel came last summer from AZ to PSV, and at the start of the season the forward made a good impression until on 21 September 2025 fate struck in the home match against Ajax (2-2).

Mijnans says he is happy to be reunited with his former teammate at AZ. ''He welcomed me very well here and in the first few days he really acted like a guide, haha. I’m glad he was able to help me like that. Happy to be able to play with him again,'' the midfielder said.
