Bizarre images | “Gianni Infantino’s reaction after a goal by Cape Verde against Argentina is revealing”
1 min readMillions of football fans from all over the world, except in Argentina, believe in conspiracy theories when it comes to Messi and winning matches against Argentina. We’ll leave that aside for now; each individual is free to form their own opinion about it.
By not punishing Messi’s misconduct in multiple matches, FIFA’s distrust is at least increasing. The Messi mania is there, but there are just as many counterarguments to be heard addressed at the covertly watching Argentine star, who four years ago in Qatar managed to humiliate Louis van Gaal in a disgraceful manner.
Messi sometimes really lets loose with his kicks, is associated with corruption, and is now also known as an antisocial money-hound. It’s clear that not everyone is a fan of Messi, fortunately. Thanks to Messi’s behavior, other matches are also cast in a different light. So too the match from last Wednesday to Thursday: Team USA played against Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Folarin Balogun was sent to the side in red following VAR intervention. This was for a foul that seemed like a copy of the mistake Lionel Messi made during Argentina’s first group match against Algeria. Back then, there was no involvement from VAR and Messi was allowed to stay on the pitch without punishment.

“Indeed, there is a separate rule for Lionel Messi,” the quality media outlet The Telegraph concluded. “And another rule for every other participant at this World Cup. The good news for the USA is that they benefit from it. The bad news for co-host USA and coach Mauricio Pochettino is that he has to miss Balogun, their star striker, against Belgium.”
“All of this after a very controversial red card. Balogun has every reason to complain. Especially in the context of what happened earlier in this World Cup—or rather, what did not happen—with Messi. As always, he came through a difficult situation without any injuries,” wrote the English outlet, full of distrust, toward FIFA and Infantino.
"Balogun therefore had to go, Messi did not. “How on earth can we explain that?” said reporter James Ducker in a live broadcast. “Simply an equivalent moment to the one earlier in this tournament. A touch without any actual intent, which of course looked extremely ugly.”
“A new sign of the wildly inconsistent way of managing things at this World Cup. Even implementing the VAR obviously leaves something to be desired. The consequences are significant. A red card can only be appealed if it involves swapping identities or if it involves a suspension for multiple matches. A disgrace that the US, having played such good football at this World Cup, has to miss their top scorer against Belgium. It smacks of corruption”, concluded Ducker, who added: "Does FIFA want so badly to bring the trophy back to Messi and Argentina?"
Well, if you then look at the footage of Cape Verde's goal against Argentina and take a look at Infantino's movements, it almost automatically leads to drawing some strange conclusions....judge for yourself....
