PSV beats Ajax, medical examination on Monday | “Did Ajax offer half again?”
1 min readPSV wins the battle for the signature of Sven Mijnans, who is set to join from AZ. The transfer is virtually done, aside from the fact that both clubs have reached agreement on the still considerable transfer fee for Mijnans.
Surprisingly, Ajax also appeared to show interest in Mijnans, even though it was still quite a challenge given the amount of the transfer fee. The miserable Amsterdam club offered half of the asking price for Kodai Sano during the winter transfer window, hoping that NEC would bite if an Amsterdam loanee were involved in the deal. It was not to be for Ajax, as NEC dismissed the bid. Would Ajax have offered half again in Mijnans’ transfer file?
Eindhovens Dagblad reports that PSV will pay a total of around thirteen million euros for Mijnans. Although PSV could not invoke a clause in Mijnans’ contract, the 26-year-old midfielder had agreed on a number of conditions with the Alkmaar club, which results in a slightly lower transfer fee than the previously mentioned 15 million euros.
Mijnans is now round with PSV and is expected to undergo a medical examination on Monday, reports Eindhovens Dagblad on the current state of affairs. In 2023, Mijnans cost AZ around €2.5 million. In Alkmaar, Mijnans accounted for fifty official matches, 21 goals, and 9 assists.

According to De Telegraaf, earlier this summer top Bundesliga clubs RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund made another bid for Mijnans. However, those proposals were considered too low by AZ. In addition, he had been attracting interest for some time from Juventus and Como. The midfielder himself saw a move to PSV as the best option for his career development.

Lmao that midfield decision... you either commit or you dont. 😅 If the article is praising the buildup, fine, but I want to see more direct vertical passes earlier, not after 5 touches. That is how we get goals against low blocks, no cap. 🚀
If PSV are really set up like this in the midfield, then it better not be another game where we overplay and lose the ball in the half-space. 👀 Pepi vibes aside, we need the tempo to spike sooner.
"PSV Inside" feels spot on with the way we build. 👀 The fullbacks being aggressive means we can pin teams wide, but if we lose the second ball in midfield it turns into chaos fast. So far, the balance looks decent though.
If PSV really wants to keep control like that, Veerman has to be more brave in the half-spaces. Right now he receives facing backwards too often, and it kills the press-trigger. Hoping the next lineup gives him a clearer lane.
