Sven Mijnans speaks out about AZ’s position and about the future at PSV

1 min read

In fact, Sven Mijnans says that a future at PSV would bore him in the nose for the second time in a row. Not with so many words, but between the lines there are clear messages from the midfielder of AZ, who is going to leave Alkmaar this summer.

Through the front door, yes, of course. Sven Mijnans and Max Huiberts had the biggest fight a little over a year ago, after the technical director of the Alkmaars made it clear to them about PSV’s interest. In the meantime, we’re back a little over a year further, but Mijnans no longer counts on a transfer to PSV.

Of course, there is interest from a number of German clubs, but can Mijnans make it in the tough Bundesliga? In any case, the expectation is that Sven Mijnans will leave AZ this summer.

The management of PSV made a number of brave and costly attempts last summer to take over Mijnans from AZ, but after the outbound transfer of Ruben van Bommel to PSV, AZ wanted to cooperate with nothing. Subsequently, the midfielder did sign a new, improved contract, but with the guarantee that the club will cooperate with a transfer this summer. Still, Mijnans does not think he will make the move to PSV after all.

"I don't think AZ's position has changed, no. So I don't think PSV is a serious option at the moment," Mijnans says to Noord Hollands Dagblad. "I think I would fit best in the German or Italian league."

According to the regional newspaper, there is the necessary interest from the Bundesliga from clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen. Mijnans admits that he is indeed being informed by clubs. "But that is all still very early days", said Mijnans, who this season scored eleven goals and provided six assists in the Eredivisie.

"PSV Inside" is exactly what it should be, tactical details and not just vibes. But tbh, i think the decision to leave that space behind the full-back is asking for trouble. Either man-mark tighter or cover the channel every time.

That PSV Inside take on the pressing sounds right tbh. When the first trigger is late, you can literally feel the game slow down for the opponents. Need more intensity from the front, especially on second balls 🔥

Tbh i like the idea of rotating the front line, but the article saying X should play more as a winger feels risky. If he doesnt track back, we leave the fullback 1v1 way too often. 🤡

If PSV keep playing out from the back like that, i see the press getting them sooner or later. Safer option is quicker switches to the wings and let the midfield breathe. Also, the build-up looked a bit too slow in the final third.

Midfield balance is the key. The article hints at more control after winning it back, but in practice you need the 8 to stay close to the pivot. Otherwise our transitions get too slow and the wings get isolated.

Bro, the way they described the press in the article... i hope it matches the pitch. When we dont jump together, the midfield gap gets punished instantly 😅

If PSV really want to build through the fullbacks, i need to see more overlap from the right side. Otherwise it just turns into sideways passing and Ajax-style pressure wins the ball back.

If PSV are really serious about pushing the fullbacks higher, then the midfield has to cover those half-spaces. Otherwise it turns into chaos again, like we saw against Ajax.

If PSV go back to that slow build-up again, Heracles are gonna punish it all day. Brobbey needs to drop deeper early or we will keep inviting pressure. 👀
